Gates is an American maker of belts and hoses. The company was founded in 1911, is based in Denver and has sites in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. From Gates we mainly offer V-belts for compressors, pumps and machines, plus two hoses: one for fuel and one for steam.

Our belts come in four types: classical belts to DIN 2215, narrow cogged belts to DIN 7753 in CR or EPDM rubber and multi-rib belts to ISO 9932. Every belt lists its profile and length, classical belts also their code, so you can easily match a replacement to your old belt.

The cross-section (width × height) and length of each belt are listed in its parameters. A dash means we do not state a temperature for that product.

How to choose and replace a belt

1. Find the profile and length

The marking is on the back of the old belt, for example A109 or SPZ 2800. Each of our belts lists its profile, length and cross-section.

2. Release the tension

Move the motor or tensioner so the belt can be fitted freely by hand. Do not lever the belt over the pulley rim, as this damages the cords.

3. Replace the whole set

On a drive with several belts, replace them all at once. A new belt next to stretched ones would carry most of the load.

4. Tension and check

Tension the belt as the machine manual says and check it again after a few hours of running. EPDM belts do not need re-tensioning.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know which belt I need?
By its profile and length. The profile is a letter or code (Z, A, B, C, SPZ, SPB, XPZ, XPA, XPB, PJ, PL, PM) and the length is in millimetres. For classical belts the code helps too, such as A109, which you will find in the parameters next to the length.
What is the difference between a classical and a cogged belt?
Classical belts have the traditional cross-section to DIN 2215. Cogged belts are narrow belts to DIN 7753, and the cogs on the inside help them bend around smaller pulleys.
Which belt can take higher temperatures?
EPDM belts (XPZ, XPA, XPB) work from −50 to +130 °C. Classical SBR belts are designed for −30 to +70 °C.
What are multi-rib belts for?
They have several ribs on one flat belt to ISO 9932. They are used on compressors, pumps, alternators and saws, run smoothly and are easy to tension.
Which Gates hoses do you offer?
Fuel Profi PVC is an unpressurised hose for petrol, oils, water and air. Steam Profi 210 is a rubber hose with two steel braids for saturated steam up to +210 °C and 18 bar, and it also suits pressurised hot water.

The profile, length and material of each belt are listed in its parameters. GATES® is a registered trademark of Gates Corporation.
