Introduction to the AC 40-8 system
Thanks to their modular dimensions, the AC 40-8 aluminium profiles are among the most widely used structural profiles on the market. The series is based on a single 40×40 mm base cross-section, from which all the other profile sizes in the series are derived. A characteristic feature of the AC 40-8 system is the uniform 8 mm slot of the same shape all around the profiles, which allows the individual profiles to be combined with one another easily and makes them compatible with all the system's connecting elements. As a result, AC 40-8 profiles can be joined in any way and complemented with accessories without any modification – the system is fully modular. This category belongs to the main section Aluminium profiles and accessories, which covers the complete range of ALUSIC aluminium structural systems.
Key features of AC 40-8 profiles
- The 8 mm slot and compatibility: All AC 40-8 profiles have a standardised 8 mm wide T-slot. The slot shape is identical across the whole series, which guarantees full compatibility with the fastening material (bolts, nuts, angle brackets, etc.) and easy joining of profiles to one another. Panels, infills or accessories can also be fixed into the 8 mm slot, typically using connecting elements for an M8 bolt to secure a firm joint.
- Modular dimensions: The base module is the 40×40 mm cross-section. Profiles with multiple dimensions are available on its basis (40×80, 40×120, 80×80 mm and so on). These modular sizes make it possible to create structures of various shapes and sizes; the profiles fit together dimensionally and can be combined within a single assembly.
- Light vs. heavy version: AC 40-8 profiles are made in two wall-thickness variants – light (standard) and heavy. Both variants have an identical outer cross-section and dimensions but differ in weight and load capacity. Heavy profiles contain more material (thicker walls), which increases their strength, permits higher loads and reduces deflection under dynamic stress.
- Material and surface finish: The profiles are made of high-quality EN AW 6060-T5 aluminium alloy with an anodised surface. Anodising creates a protective layer >12 µm thick that increases resistance to corrosion and mechanical wear. They meet the accuracy of the EN 12020-2 standard.
- Versatility and variability: Most profiles have slots on all sides, which allows components to be attached in any direction. Variants with smooth sides also exist, reducing the build-up of dirt and improving appearance.
Typical use and industrial applications
Thanks to their robustness and universal design, AC 40-8 profiles are very widely used. Most often they serve for:
- Workbenches and assembly stations: Rigid frames for ergonomic workplaces with the option of fitting shelves and holders.
- Protective fencing and machine guards: Safety enclosures, doors and guards for machinery.
- Conveyor and line frames: Ideal for building the frames of conveyor systems and handling units.
- Machine bases and equipment structures: Supporting frames for 3D printers, CNC machines or robotic workstations.
- Universal structures and fixtures: Trolleys, racks or stands working as a construction kit with no welding required.
Profile sizes available
The AC 40-8 series includes several basic cross-sections (all with an 8 mm slot):
- 40×40 mm profile: The most universal square profile. A standard variant (lighter, approx. 1.37 kg/m) and a heavy one with a thicker wall.
- 40×80 mm profile: A rectangular profile, very strong in the direction of the longer side. Suitable for conveyors and machine frames.
- 40×120 mm profile: Intended for extreme loads in the direction of the 120 mm side or for long spans.
- 80×80 mm profile: A square profile with high rigidity in all directions, ideal for gantry frames.
- 80×120 mm profile: A very robust profile for the frames of the most demanding machines and lines.
The profiles come in standard lengths of approx. 6 m. We offer precise cutting of profiles to size according to your requirements, including all accessories such as end caps and connecting elements.
Benefits for customers
- Modularity and flexibility: The system works as a construction kit that can be altered or dismantled at any time without damaging the parts.
- Easy, fast assembly: No welding needed. Ordinary tools and mechanical fasteners are enough.
- High compatibility: Full compatibility within the ALUSIC system and the standardised 8 mm slot.
- Strength and low weight: An excellent strength-to-weight ratio compared with steel structures.
- Professional appearance: The anodised surface is attractive and resistant to corrosion and scratching.
