    Oil-water separator cartridges – original and compatible

    The cartridge of an oil-water separator binds the oil from compressor condensate. Over time it becomes saturated with oil and then starts letting it through into the waste water – which is why it is replaced regularly. We have cartridges for separators of 46 brands: original ones from the separator manufacturers and compatible Omega Air cartridges for separators of other brands.

    Choose the cartridge by the brand and type of the separator shown on its rating plate. You will find both in the table below or with the “For separator brand” filter.

    Find the cartridge by separator brand

    Many separators are sold under several brands – the same separator has a different name with each brand. That is why one cartridge often fits separators from several manufacturers. Find your brand and type; in the category, each cartridge then has a table of all the types it fits.

    When to replace the cartridge

    Replace the cartridge as soon as the first of these situations occurs:

    • the water at the separator outlet contains more oil than you are allowed to discharge – check it with test strips or with a turbidity test according to the separator manual
    • the cartridge is saturated with oil or clogged and condensate no longer flows through the separator
    • the replacement interval stated by the separator manufacturer has passed – even a cartridge that is not exhausted cannot stay in service indefinitely

    How to replace the cartridge

    1. Close the condensate inlet to the separator, or wait until the compressor is not running.
    2. Remove the used cartridge and let it drip off over the separator.
    3. Pack the cartridge in a strong plastic bag. It is hazardous waste – filter material contaminated with oil (European Waste Catalogue code 15 02 02*) – and must be handed over to an authorised waste company, not put in municipal waste.
    4. Insert the new cartridge according to the separator manual. If the manual requires it, fill the separator with clean water after the replacement.
    5. Do not reuse a cartridge that has already been in service – even after drying it will not reliably capture oil.

    Original or compatible cartridge?

    The original cartridge comes from the separator manufacturer. The compatible cartridge is made by Omega Air as a replacement for the original kit for the listed separator types – it contains the same kinds of filter material (polypropylene, which captures free oil, and activated carbon for residual oil in the water). We state the contents of each kit with the cartridge.

    If your permit to discharge the water specifies original cartridges from the separator manufacturer, choose the original kit.

    Ventilek’s tip

    Have a new cartridge ready before the old one is exhausted. A separator with a saturated cartridge lets oil straight into the waste water.

    How do I find out which cartridge I need?
    By the brand and type of the separator on its rating plate. Find them in the table above or with the “For separator brand” filter. Each cartridge has a table of all the types it fits.
    Does a compatible cartridge fit my separator?
    Yes, if your separator type is listed in the table for the cartridge. Compatible cartridges are made specifically for these types.
    Why does one cartridge fit separators of different brands?
    Compressor manufacturers often sell the same separator under their own brand and their own name. For example, the Atlas Copco OSC35 separator is also sold as the ABAC WS13 or the Alup OWS13.
    What do kits A, B and D for Atlas Copco OSC separators mean?
    They differ in content: kit A contains only polypropylene elements, kits B and D also activated carbon (kit B with more polypropylene elements). Which kit to use and when to replace it is set out in the separator manual.
    Can I dry a used cartridge and use it again?
    No. A cartridge that has already been in service will not reliably capture oil. A used cartridge is hazardous waste and must be handed over to an authorised waste company.
