The fire hose is a standard piece of equipment of professional as well as volunteer firefighters. It serves primarily to lead water from the source right to the place of its use or to pump out water during floods. Commonly, however, they also have their place in buildings, utility premises and structures as part of hydrant systems. A larger number of types of fire hoses is nevertheless distinguished, which differ partly in diameter and also in length. Fire hoses intended for operations and hoses intended primarily for firefighting sport also differ from one another.
Materials of fire hoses
Fire hoses are made of one hundred per cent synthetic polystyrene yarn. Depending on the type of fire hose, appropriate modifications are further carried out, such as for example adding a liner of the resistant material EPDM. The couplings are as standard of forged aluminium or of copper.
On the basis of certain modifications, fire hoses can be adapted so that they acquire specific properties, such as for example resistance to chemical substances, mechanical resistance for example to damage by a knife or another sharp object, or they can acquire antistatic properties.

Hoses for pumping drinking water
Fire hoses for pumping drinking water meet demanding requirements. They are odourless, resist abrasion and also rot. As standard, Eschbach drinking water hoses can be supplied in various lengths up to 100 metres. They are marked in blue colour and are light and flexible. The inner part of the hose is provided with a rubberised layer of light rubber dimensioned for the food industry.
Fire hoses POLYDUR
The durable Polydur fire hoses are enriched with a special vulcanised rubberising, thanks to which they are abrasion-resistant, resistant to ageing and UV radiation. These hoses are, however, resistant above all to chemical substances, such as acids, salt solutions, oils or petrol.
Sport fire hoses
Sport fire hoses are used primarily in firefighting sport. They are provided with a liner of polyurethane film. Sport fire hoses have a small diameter, so that they can be rolled up better. They are made in white colour and are easy to clean.
Shape-stable fire hoses
This type of fire hose is reinforced with a rubber liner of EPDM, which is extremely resistant to ageing. Thanks to the monofilament fibre the hose keeps its shape. The hoses are easy to wind and roll
All firefighting hoses Eschbach can be supplied with above-standard couplings, selected types of fire hoses can also be provided with their own inscriptions to order, or they can be supplied in other colours and diameters than the standard ones.
