    Analog vs. digital tire inflators

    Analog tyre inflators use a classic mechanical manometer (alarm clock) to display the pressure. They typically have a clear dual scale in both bar and psi units, so you can read the current pressure directly from the needle on the dial. The advantage of analogue pressure gauges is simplicity - they do not need batteries and are generally robust and reliable over a wide range of temperatures. For example, the basic model TG-09 has a 63 mm diameter manometer with rubber protective cover and scales in bar, kPa, psi and other units. Analogue inflators are well suited for routine tyre pressure checks, with the accuracy of good quality types reaching approximately 1% (accuracy class 1.0), which is sufficient for normal use.

    Digital tyre inflators display pressure on an electronic display. This enables very accurate readings - often with a fine resolution of e.g. 0.05 bar. In addition, modern digital models can switch between multiple pressure units (bar, PSI, kPa, etc.) for easier use in different conditions. An example is the TG-03A, equipped with a digital monochrome display, which is designed for tyre inflation in craft workshops and domestic applications. Digital tyre inflators are particularly useful when you need a quick and convenient way to get an accurate pressure reading (e.g. for multiple vehicles or when setting specific pressures for racing purposes). The disadvantages may be the need for battery power (typically a 3V lithium battery is replaceable in these densifiers) and a slightly higher purchase price. Digital functions are not essential for normal home use, but in professional use they significantly speed up and refine work.

    Thickener design: hoses and valves

    Most tyre inflators have a flexible hose, usually 30-50 cm long, with a connecting valve at the end for fitting to the tyre valve. The hose allows convenient handling - you can easily reach even hard-to-reach valves of car or motorcycle wheels. For example, the basic TG models have a hose length of about 340 mm, while the more robust pro-grade inflators have longer hoses of around 500 mm for reach. On some professional models, the hose is attached via a swivel joint that prevents the hose from twisting while working. There are also special designs without a separate hose, where the inflator is equipped with a fixed double connector - such a double connector allows fast inflation and measurement, especially for double truck (double tyre) assemblies. These direct double valves can be found, for example, on portable tyre inflators (see below) and facilitate operation on trucks or buses.

    The important part is the end cap (valve) that you put on the tire valve. We distinguish several types:

    • Basic (straight) valve - a simple end cap that you put directly on the auto-moto valve (Schrader) and press. It is often a fixed part of the hose in cheaper thickeners (e.g. TG-01 has a base valve suitable for common car, motorcycle and bicycle engine valves). The tip must be held by hand or screwed in when inflating, it has no locking mechanism.

    • Lever (quick-release) valve - end cap with a lever, which is clicked (tightened) with a lever after it is put on the valve. The advantage is that it holds onto the valve itself and the operator has free hands and the assurance of a tight connection. It can also be purchased separately as an accessory and mounted on the hose of the inflator. For example, the TGV-P lever valve is designed to complement the TG series inflators, allowing convenient wheel inflation without the need to hold the end cap. This type is especially appreciated by professionals when inflating multiple tyres frequently.

    • Reversible valve - a special nozzle with a double extension, usually one straight and the other angled. It allows the valves to be operated from both sides, which is ideal for dual truck or bus wheels (easy access to both inner and outer tire valves). Reversible valves are often combined with a handle for better handling. For example, the TG-63D professional inflator is directly designed for inflating dual truck tyres and is equipped with a double-sided valve with extension.

    The control of the inflator itself is similar in all types - pistol grip with a lever (trigger). When the lever is depressed, air from the compressor flows into the tyre; when the lever is released, the flow stops. Either a small button (usually on the side or back of the device) is used to release excess pressure, or on more sophisticated models, the lever only needs to be partially depressed (halfway through the stroke) for release mode. This makes it possible to fine-tune the pressure very precisely. To connect the inflator to the air supply, the standard DN 7.2 quick coupling (nipple) on all standard models is used - so it can be easily screwed onto the compressor hose.

    Suitable type according to user

    When choosing a tyre inflator, it is useful to consider who will use it and how. The occasional home tyre inflation has different requirements, and the busy operation of a tyre service station or petrol station in continuous operation has different requirements. Below are typical user groups and recommended solutions.

    For home and hobby users

    DIYers and ordinary motorists usually appreciate a simple and affordable inflator to check and inflate the tyres of a car, motorbike or bicycle. The ideal choice is the basic analogue tire inflators of the TG series in the basic version. For example, the TG-09 (or the very similar TG-01) is fully sufficient for easy filling of car, motorcycle and bicycle tyres. It has a lightweight aluminium body, a clear gauge and lever control with a release button. These inflators can normally handle pressures up to 8-10 bar, which covers the needs of passenger cars (usually around 2-3 bar) and most motorcycles and bicycles. For home use, the advantage is that they are compact, easy to connect to a smaller compressor and have spare parts (hoses, gauges, seals) available in case of wear.

    If the home user requires a more convenient pressure reading, he can reach for a digital inflator. For example, the TG-03A is already one of the most affordable digital densifiers and is designed for both hobby use and smaller workshops. The digital display makes it easy to read the readings even in low light and eliminates guessing at the needle position. For occasional garage humming, it's a convenience that's not necessary - the analogue model does the job just as well, it just requires more careful reading. So it depends on preference; in any case, even for home use, we recommend choosing a pressure gauge with a metal body and a protective gauge cover so that it lasts a long time without damage (most of the models on offer do this).

    For craft workshops and garages

    Smaller professional workshops, car repair shops or, for example, car transporters with their own garage will use the inflator more often - daily or several times a day. Here, it is worth investing in a more robust design that can withstand more frequent handling and will last for many years. A good choice may be analogue pressure gauges with a larger gauge (Ø80 mm), which have better readability and often higher accuracy. The TG-80, for example, is one of the more professional analogue models: it has an 80mm gauge with a double bar/psi scale and a rubber protective cover. The larger alarm clock is an eye-catcher in the workshop - the mechanic can immediately see what the pressure is, even from a greater angle or distance. For workshops where inflation is only occasionally carried out (e.g. as part of a vehicle service), an analogue inflator will suffice; however, if you manage multiple vehicles in your garage and need speed, consider a digital model.

    For more intensive workshop use, mid-range digital compactors are available that combine durability and modern features. The aforementioned TG-03A can also serve well in a small workshop - it has a hanging eye for hanging over a pontoon or hoist and a rubber-protected display. The next step up would be e.g. SB-3130, which is a professional digital inflator suitable for tire shops and garages (see next section). However, an analogue unit is often sufficient for smaller premises and the type of nozzle is more important - if you also blow vans or trucks, don't forget a double-sided valve attachment for twin wheels or a hose of sufficient length. The advantage of the range in this category is that you can choose the inflator variant exactly according to your needs - for example, the TG-80D type comes straight with a double-sided valve for universal use on both passenger and truck tyres.

    For garages and tyre workshops (professional use)

    In professional tyre and car service centres, where tyre inflation is carried out very frequently, high demands are placed on the speed, precision and durability of the equipment.     Digital thickeners for service operation: high-precision digital models are designed for the highest demands. The Euroair TGD is a digital densifier with an accuracy of ±0.08 bar and a fine resolution of 0.05 bar, also suitable for industrial deployment and special applications. Thanks to the certification of the German testing laboratory PTB and the possibility to deliver a calibrated version, it is also suitable where regular verification of the gauges is required. The 80 mm diameter digital display has a protective rubber cover and displays pressure in several units. These densifiers are designed as top quality for everyday professional use - this is matched by their higher weight and robustness (e.g. almost 1 kg for the TGD). Another example is the aforementioned SB-3130, a digital inflator popular in garages: it can measure in PSI, bar and kPa units and is designed for use in tyre shops, garages and transport companies. It allows you to quickly switch to the desired pressure mode and its durable construction can withstand even rough handling in the workshop. For professional operation, we recommend choosing models with an ergonomic handle, a quality hose (ideally swivel) and a reliable valve - all of which the pro models we offer meet.

    For continuous operation (petrol station, mobile service)

    A special category of applications is represented by petrol stations, public pressure stations or mobile service units where a thickener is needed that can withstand rough handling, is easily portable and ideally operates independently of a permanent connection to a compressor. Portable tyre fillers such as the TGA AirQuick are used for this purpose. It is a mobile wheel inflator adapted for easy one-handed carrying and can be used by the general public - typically seen at self-service tyre inflation stations at petrol stations. The TGA inflator contains a built-in 6 litre pressure vessel, so it can operate for a certain period of time without a hose connected to the compressor (it can hold enough air to inflate several tyres). It has an extra large Ø160 mm pressure gauge with a tilt for easy reading and drainage, so the pressure status is clearly visible even from a distance and in bad weather. Of course, there is a double connector for inflating two truck assemblies and also a built-in automatic pressure refill system - when the inflator is returned to the holder (hanging on the filling valve), the air reservoir is automatically inflated. This instrument meets strict safety requirements (it is approved as a simple pressure vessel and the gauge complies with the 86/217/EEC accuracy directive). For non-stop operation, it is the ideal solution - operation is simple, the equipment is durable and can handle high loads. If you run a petrol station or service station where customers inflate their own wheels, the TGA portable filler provides a reliable and safe means. It can also be supplied with a calibrated manometer for official verification.

    Accessories and accessories for inflation

    For example, if you need to inflate a bicycle with a Presta valve or inflate sports balls or mattresses, just get a suitable attachment.
