Eschbach (Jakob Eschbach GmbH) is a German maker of lay-flat hoses. Jakob Eschbach founded the company in 1956 in Essen-Kupferdreh as a factory for fire hoses and mining suits, and it has been based in Marsberg in the Sauerland since 1965. It makes all its lay-flat hoses in Germany entirely in-house, from the choice of raw materials to the finished hose: more than 5 million metres a year, in lengths of up to 1,000 m. Rubber-coated versions are made on the company’s own vulcanising lines.
We offer fire hoses for attack, sport and hydrant use certified to DIN 14811 or DIN EN 14540, lay-flat hoses for drinking water, industrial lay-flat hoses for liquids, irrigation hoses and a lightweight compressed air hose for breakers and rock drills. The hoses come by the metre or with Storz couplings in the length you need.

Foam, chemicals and fuels. Rubber-coated inside and out, resistant to alkalis, acids, oils and petrol, with longitudinal ribs.
- DIN 14811
- bore 38 to 150 mm
- 17 bar, 12 bar from 110 mm
ESFS – hydrant hose
For wall hydrants. A light hose with an EPDM liner for hydrants in buildings and industrial plants.
- DIN EN 14540
- D25, C42 and C52
- working pressure 16 bar
ADR – drinking water
Food industry, emergencies and floods. A robust blue lay-flat hose with a neutral odour and stainless steel couplings.
- KTW category A, DVGW W270, WRAS
- drinking water up to +23 °C

Pressure means the working pressure of the hose; in most ranges it is higher for smaller bores. Exact values are listed in the parameters of each hose.
How to handle a lay-flat hose
1. Choose by use
For attack use the standard EL or the light X2000, for darkness and smoke the reflective ESL, for rough ground the abrasion-resistant ESPU, for hydrants the ESFS.
2. Lay out without kinks
Unroll the hose straight and untwisted. A kinked hose restricts flow when charged and is stressed for no reason.
3. Rinse after use
After use, rinse the hose with clean water, especially after foam concentrate, chemicals or salt water.
4. Dry and store
Let the hose dry before storing it and roll it up. Keep it in a dry place, out of direct sunlight.
Frequently asked questions
- What do D25, C52 or B75 mean?
- The letter gives the size of the Storz coupling and the number the bore of the hose in millimetres. Attack lines are usually made of C hoses and supply lines of B hoses.
- What are classes L2 and L3?
- A performance class under DIN 14811 that describes how durable the hose is. An L3 hose lasts longer: for C42 and C52 the minimum number of test cycles is 600 instead of 400 for L2, for B75 140 instead of 120.
- Which hose for drinking water?
- ADR lay-flat hoses are certified to KTW category A, DVGW W270 and BS 6920 (WRAS) and have a neutral odour. They carry drinking water up to +23 °C and have stainless steel couplings with silicone seals.
- Which hose for chemicals and foam?
- POLR Polydur is rubber-coated inside and out and resists alkalis, salt solutions, acids, oils, petrol and fuels. For pumping liquids in industry and refineries there is Hilcodur HLS with the same resistance.
- Which certifications do Eschbach hoses have?
- Fire hoses are certified to DIN 14811, hydrant hoses to DIN EN 14540 and reel hoses to DIN EN 694. For other markets the hoses also hold certifications such as LOBA, Lloyd’s Register, DNV, KTW and BS 6391; in the Czech Republic they were tested by TÚPO, the Czech fire protection technical institute.
- Which sectors does Eschbach make hoses for?
- For the fire service (indoor and rapid attack hoses, forest and vegetation fire hoses, water supply and marine hoses), for industry and construction (water supply, snow cannons, compressed air, mining), for agriculture (slurry and irrigation) and for drinking water (large events, emergency supply, wells). Every hose is tested according to certified procedures.
The certification, pressure and temperature of each hose are listed in its parameters. Eschbach is a brand of the German company Jakob Eschbach GmbH of Marsberg.
