This diameter is often chosen by hobby painters and modellers who need to paint small areas, edges and details precisely – typically when finishing models, plastic figurines or small components. It is also used in airbrush work, where it creates fine lines, half-tones and detailed graphics. In short, wherever precision matters more than covering a large area quickly, 0.5 mm is the right choice.

Advantages over the 0.3 mm nozzle
Compared with the smaller 0.3 mm nozzle, the 0.5 mm offers several practical benefits. Its larger passage makes it less prone to clogging – something you will especially appreciate with thicker acrylic paints or lacquers containing metallic and pearlescent pigments, which a 0.3 mm nozzle might not pass reliably. It also applies a slightly heavier layer and covers an area faster, which raises efficiency on medium-sized projects. At the same time it retains a very fine spray and high accuracy, making it a versatile middle ground between the finest and the medium-sized nozzles.

The 0.7 mm alternative
If your application should require still higher application output or work with even thicker coatings, the larger 0.7 mm nozzle is a suitable alternative. Compared with 0.5 mm it applies heavier layers and speeds up coverage (when priming medium-sized parts or using heavily pigmented paints, for example). Bear in mind, though, that 0.7 mm no longer achieves such fine atomisation – it therefore suits situations where a slightly coarser spray does not matter and speed takes priority. For most precision and hobby applications, however, 0.5 mm remains the preferred choice thanks to its excellent balance of accuracy and output.
