What the 2.0 mm nozzle suits
A 2.0 mm nozzle diameter is the upper limit of commonly used sizes on spray guns. This type is used to apply very thick materials that smaller nozzles would either not push through at all or would clog on. Guns with a 2.0 mm nozzle therefore allow smooth, even spraying of spray putties, high-viscosity fillers, insulating coatings, fibre compounds and two-component (2K) materials with a high solids content.
The nozzle suits demanding conditions in industry, construction and service work, where speed, a robust coat and trouble-free material passage are required.
Examples of use:
- Filling large areas – repairing bodywork, panels or sheet metal where a heavy filler layer is needed for later sanding.
- Spraying gel and textured coatings – on equipment with surface protection against wear, vibration or moisture, for example.
- Priming metal structures – industrial primers with a high solids content, applied in one heavy pass without thinning.
- Protective layers on machine parts – compressors, hydraulic components or frames exposed to load, dust or moisture, for instance.
- Applying insulating compounds containing fibres or micro-particles, which thinner nozzles would not atomise evenly.
Technical notes and comparison with other nozzles
Recommended working pressure:
HVLP systems usually use a pressure of around 2.0 bar (inlet); conventional guns are recommended at 3–4 bar. The aim is to get very thick material out without clogging while still atomising it finely, with no large droplets or paint lost to overspray.
Compared with 1.9 mm:
The 2.0 mm nozzle passes material even more freely, which you will appreciate especially with putties and gel coats – spraying is faster and does not snag. If you work with less viscous materials, though, a 1.9 mm nozzle may be more practical.
Alternative: 2.2 mm
If you use extremely thick compounds (thixotropic putties, fibre mixes) or spray very large areas, going higher may make sense. The 2.2 mm nozzle does, however, demand careful setting of pressure, technique and distance – otherwise overspray or dripping can occur.
