What solenoid valves are
Solenoid valves are electrically operated valves that control the flow of a medium such as gas or liquid by magnetic force. These valves consist of a solenoid and a spring-loaded valve body. The solenoid is an electromagnet that generates a magnetic flux when connected to an electrical voltage source. The spring-loaded body inside the valve responds to the magnetic flux and attracts or repels the valve disc, which changes the valve position and controls the flow of the medium.
Solenoid valves are widely used in industry, process automation, water technology and other fields where the flow of a medium has to be controlled by electrical signals. Their advantages are simplicity, speed and reliability.
How to choose the right solenoid valve
When selecting a solenoid valve, several criteria have to be taken into account so that the valve suits the particular application and meets the requirements for flow, pressure and temperature. The main factors to consider when choosing a solenoid valve are:
- Medium: Choose a valve matching the type of medium whose flow you want to control. The valve should be compatible with the medium and meet the pressure and temperature requirements.
- Pressure: Find out what pressure the medium will be under and choose a valve that matches those requirements.
- Temperature: Find out what temperature the medium will reach and choose a valve that matches those requirements.
- Flow: Determine the flow of the medium that needs to be controlled and choose a valve that matches those requirements.
- Quality: Choose a valve from a reliable manufacturer with good references and assured quality.
- Installation: Check how the valve will be installed and what type of mounting will be required.
- Cost: Consider the total cost of purchase, installation and maintenance of the valve.
