ATMOS is a Czech family-owned compressor manufacturer, the company ATMOS Chrást s.r.o. from Chrást near Pilsen. It makes screw and piston compressors, its own screw blocks and generator sets, and besides stationary machines also mobile and locomotive compressors. It makes the blocks and air receivers itself, assembles and tests the machines in Chrást and exports them to more than 100 countries.

Engineering production in Chrást began in 1899, compressors have been made here for more than 70 years, and in 2024 the company celebrated its 125th anniversary. In the socialist era the works belonged to the state enterprise Škoda Plzeň; screw compressors arrived in the 1980s, at first under licence, and more than 25 new types have been added since. With us you will find the Perfect piston series for the workshop and the Albert, SEC and SmartTronic screw series for continuous operation.

ATMOS Perfect 4/270 piston compressor on a horizontal air receiver

Perfect — piston compressors

Cast-iron pump unit for the workshop. The cast-iron pump unit runs at low speed and copes with daily use. Since 2004 it has been working in tens of thousands of installations in the Czech Republic and abroad.

  • 2.2 to 7.5 kW, 310 to 1,170 l/min
  • horizontal or vertical receiver, 90 to 500 l
  • two-stage machines for 12.5 and 14 bar

ATMOS Albert E.50 K screw compressor on an air receiver

Albert — screw, 4 to 22 kW

From a small workshop to light production. The slow-running B100 or B150 screw block is coupled directly to the motor, with no belt.

  • Komfort in a soundproof steel enclosure
  • air receiver and dryer on the machine
  • Vario with a frequency inverter

ATMOS SEC 372 Vario screw compressor

SEC — industrial, 22 to 37 kW

For continuous operation in production. A free-standing machine in a soundproofed steel enclosure, the air receiver is chosen separately.

  • pressure 8, 10 or 13 bar
  • IE3 motors and ATMOS screw blocks
  • Vario with a frequency inverter

ATMOS SmartTronic screw compressor

SmartTronic — 30 to 110 kW

A compressor station in one cabinet. The ATMOS flagship series for large industrial plants.

  • free air delivery up to 19.1 m³/min
  • pressure 7.5 to 13 bar
  • FD version with a built-in fusion dryer

A piston compressor needs breaks; the air receiver gives it time to cool down. A screw compressor can run continuously.

How to choose an ATMOS compressor

1. Add up consumption

Add up the air consumption of the tools that will run at the same time and allow a reserve of about 30 %. Work with the machine’s free air delivery, not its intake capacity.

2. Piston or screw

For intermittent use in a workshop or garage, a Perfect piston compressor is enough. Where the compressor runs for most of the shift, choose an Albert, SEC or SmartTronic screw compressor.

3. Pressure and receiver

Most tools need 10 bar; the two-stage Perfect machines deliver 12.5 and 14 bar. A large receiver pays off when tools draw air in bursts: the machine then switches on less often.

4. Dry air and maintenance

For dry, clean air add a dryer and filters; on screw machines the dryer can be built into the compressor. Service a Perfect piston compressor once a year with an original service kit.

Frequently asked questions

Who makes ATMOS compressors?
The Czech family-owned company ATMOS Chrást s.r.o. at its plant in Chrást near Pilsen, where engineering production has been running since 1899. In the socialist era the plant belonged to the state enterprise Škoda Plzeň; from that time comes, for example, the 1982 PKD12 piston compressor under the ŠKODA brand. ATMOS makes its own screw blocks and air receivers, and assembles and tests the machines in Chrást.
What does Vario in the name mean?
A Vario machine has a frequency inverter that smoothly adjusts the speed of the screw block to the current air demand. The compressor does not run idle and, with variable demand, saves 20 to 30 % of electricity.
What do the letters in the Albert series mean?
K = Komfort in a soundproof steel enclosure, V = air receiver, S = built-in refrigeration dryer. For example, the E.50 KVS is an E.50 in the enclosure, with a receiver and a dryer.
Which Perfect can I plug into a 230 V socket?
The Perfect 2,2/90 EX and the Perfect 2,2/150 EX. The other Perfect compressors need a three-phase 400 V socket.
Which oil goes into a Perfect compressor?
ATMOS VDL 100 mineral compressor oil. Depending on the machine, the fill is 1 to 2 litres, and the oil comes with an extractor in every service kit.
What is the FD fusion dryer in the SmartTronic series?
A dryer built directly into the compressor that uses the machine’s waste heat for regeneration. You set the pressure dew point on the controller between +5 and −20 °C. The five largest models have no FD version.

The operating manual for Perfect compressors can be downloaded from the machine’s product page. ATMOS is a brand of ATMOS Chrást s.r.o.
