Spray guns for powder coating with a 0,3 mm nozzle
A spray gun with a 0.3 mm nozzle allows very precise application of thin to medium-thick paints. This nozzle diameter is ideal for detail work – you will use it in modelling, airbrush painting, retouching and technical painting of smaller areas. A gun with a 0.3 mm nozzle produces a fine mist suited to even thin layers and smooth shade transitions. The result is a precise finish with minimal overspray and paint savings. Which paints and applications suit the 0.3 mm nozzle: The 0.3 mm nozzle is among the most popular for airbrush and detail spraying. It handles thinner to medium-thick paints – from acrylic and enamel modelling paints to fine lacquers and stains. It suits retouching work where small paint defects have to be corrected with a precisely targeted spray. It also serves in technical painting of smaller components and surfaces where precision is required (fine lines, labelling or thin functional coatings). Thanks to its very fine mist, the 0.3 mm nozzle achieves a smooth, even surface with no brush marks – something hobby users and professionals alike appreciate.
Examples in practice: The 0.3 mm nozzle is used in many fields where detail and spray control matter:
- Modelling – precise painting of models (aircraft, cars, figurines) with an emphasis on fine detail and camouflage patterns.
- Industrial marking – accurate application of colour marks, codes or labels on products and small parts in production.
- Airbrush illustration – creating artistic illustrations, graphics or effects on various surfaces (paper, canvas, bodywork) with smooth colour transitions.
- Painting small plastic parts – spraying small plastic components or prototypes (electronics housings, for example) for even coverage and a professional look.
Recommended pressure and air cleanliness: For a 0.3 mm gun to work properly, the right pressure and quality air are needed. Typical working pressure is roughly 1–3 bar (15–45 psi) – around 2 bar is optimal for most fine work. At that pressure you get fine atomisation without the paint bleeding or, conversely, insufficient coverage. Do not forget air treatment either: clean, dry, oil-free compressed air is key to quality results. We recommend using a filter or moisture separator so that no contaminants, water or oil vapour from the compressor reach the paint. Clean air ensures the paint atomises correctly and no defects appear on the surface (fish eyes caused by oil or water droplets, for example). With fine nozzles such as 0.3 mm, any contamination can show immediately, so careful air filtration is essential.
Advantages of 0.3 mm over other nozzle sizes: The 0.3 mm size is the versatile middle ground between the finest and larger nozzles. Compared with the smaller 0.2 mm nozzle, 0.3 mm can apply slightly thicker materials and cover an area faster without losing too much detail. At the same time, compared with the wider 0.5 mm it keeps a much finer spray pattern – so you will have no trouble with overspray outside the target area and can draw fine lines or dots, which a 0.5 mm nozzle would find harder. Put simply, 0.3 mm offers an excellent compromise between precision and working speed. That is why it is often recommended as the ideal choice for detailed painting of smaller areas.
