AV and AVI stainless steel air venting filters for tanks and vessels

AV and AVI air venting filters from the manufacturer Omega Air clean the air that flows into or out of a tank when the liquid level changes — during filling and emptying. The filter sits on the top of the tank, and the element inside it traps contaminants from the incoming air before they reach the liquid.
The AV range has a DIN 11851 dairy fitting from DN32 to DN80, the AVI range a Tri-clamp connection to ISO 1127 from DN40 to DN80. Both have 6 sizes with flows of 150 to 5,167 l/min and the same elements. The filters are part of the range of sterile stainless steel filters.
AV and AVI filters by size
The size determines the connection and the flow. Filters of both ranges in the same size have the same AV spare element.

When to use an air venting filter
When a tank is being filled, air escapes from it, and when it is being emptied, ambient air is drawn in. An air venting filter on the top of the tank cleans this air so that contaminants from the surroundings do not get into the liquid.
The manufacturer designs the AV range for packaging lines, biotechnology, breweries, the chemical industry, dairies, fermentation processes, food and beverages, pharmaceuticals and water treatment.
How an air venting filter is mounted

The filter is connected to the vent nozzle at the top of the tank — the AV range with a dairy fitting to DIN 11851, the AVI range with a Tri-clamp to ISO 1127. The housing has the element inside and the connection at the bottom.
Air venting filters are not intended for a pressure connection: they work at ambient pressure, and the manufacturer states a maximum of 1 bar overpressure. The SF and SPF sterile filters belong in a pressurised compressed air line.
Housing and element

Housing: stainless steel 1.4404 (316L), 1.4301 (304) on request, surface polished to Ra 0.8; the housing is also designed for sterilisation. Working temperature up to +200 °C.
If your application requires it, sterilise the filter before use. Replace the element at least once every 12 months or as required by the application, and once a year check the housing for visible damage.
Spare elements
The AV element fits both the AV and the AVI filter of the same size.
Sterilisation in place
Air venting and sterile filters can be steam-sterilised right at the installation site with the MSS mobile steam steriliser: steam at 1 to 3.6 bar and +100 to +135 °C, sterilisation and drying adjustable up to 90 minutes.

Ventilek’s tip
AV or AVI? Choose by the nozzle on the tank: AV has a dairy fitting to DIN 11851, AVI a Tri-clamp to ISO 1127. The elements are the same for both ranges.
- What is an air venting filter for?
- It cleans the air that is pushed out or drawn in when a tank is filled and emptied, so that contaminants from the surroundings do not get into the liquid.
- What is the difference between AV and AVI?
- Only the connection: AV has a dairy fitting to DIN 11851 (DN32 to DN80), AVI a Tri-clamp to ISO 1127 (DN40 to DN80). The elements are the same.
- Can I install it in a pressurised line?
- No. Air venting filters work at ambient pressure; the manufacturer states a maximum of 1 bar overpressure. SF or SPF filters belong in a compressed air line.
- What temperature does it withstand?
- Up to +200 °C.
- When should the element be replaced?
- At least once every 12 months or as required by the application.
