A safety valve for a compressor receiver, set to 8,8 bar. It screws straight into the tank with an R 1/4" thread and, once the set pressure is passed, lets the air out — typically at the moment the pressure switch fails to cut the motor. On opening it releases 76 Nm³/h. Brass body, FPM seal.

How the valve works
A spring holds the disc on its seat. While the pressure in the tank stays below the set value, the valve does nothing at all. The moment the pressure passes it, the spring is overcome, the valve opens and the air escapes freely into the surroundings; once the pressure drops it closes again. The knurled nut on top lets you lift the valve by hand and blow it off briefly — that tells you it has not gummed up with deposits.
The set pressure must match your receiver’s plate and may never be higher than the tank’s maximum working pressure. This one is 8,8 bar — it suits ordinary workshop compressors with a tank rated to 10 bar.
Markings on the body
The body carries the number of the notified body 0036, the standard EN ISO 4126-1, the flow area 28 mm² and the figure 10 % PS — how far the pressure may rise before the valve is fully open. The valve complies with directive 2014/68/EU (PED).
The setting certificate is not part of the delivery. The valve arrives set from the factory, but with no accompanying document and no seal. When you need the certificate — for a pressure vessel inspection, say — reach for the industrial version.
Fitting
It screws into a free outlet in the upper part of the receiver, into the air space. The thread is a male taper and seals on its shape — PTFE tape or hemp is enough. The outlet must stay clear, nothing goes over it. If you are replacing an old one, use the same setting the original valve had.

This is the cheapest part on the compressor and the only one that will save you when the pressure switch fails to cut out. Choose by the receiver’s plate, not by what you have the switch set to.
