Hankison NGF CF activated carbon compressed air filters
The CF activated carbon filter has two layers of activated carbon and removes oil vapours, odours and tastes that activated carbon normally adsorbs. Residual oil in the form of vapour is below 0.004 mg/m³.
The CF filter comes in 14 sizes, F02 to F17, with G 1/4" to G 3" threads and flows of 566 to 42,483 l/min. It is one of the five stages of the Hankison NGF filters — the housing is the same for all stages; only the element with its coloured end cap differs (black).
CF filters by size
The size determines the thread, the flow and the element. Each size has its own spare element.

When to use it
Activated carbon suits applications where the air comes into contact with food or pharmaceuticals, and process and analytical air. However, it does not remove methane, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide or other toxic gases and vapours.
The CF filter has no condensate drain or pressure drop indication — the element is replaced by time. Liquid oil must not reach it, so an HF or UF microfilter always goes before it.
Where to place it
Always after the HF microfilter or UF microfilter.
Flow by pressure
The catalogue flows apply to a pressure of 7 bar and a temperature of +20 °C. At a different pressure, they change according to the correction factor: at a lower pressure the filter passes less air, at a higher pressure more. Sizes F13 to F17 work up to 11 bar.

Sizes
The smallest filter, F02, is 205.5 mm tall, the largest, F17, 1,085.1 mm. You will find the width, height, connection axis and the clearance below the filter for element replacement on the product page of each size.
Element and maintenance
The housing holds one element, a different one for each size — for example CF-06 for the F06-B-CF. The coloured end cap of the element identifies the filtration stage, so elements cannot be mixed up during replacement.
The pressure drop of a new element is 70 mbar dry.
Replace the activated carbon element by time: after 1,000 operating hours, within 12 months at the latest.
Housing
The housing is die-cast aluminium, chromated and protected by a powder coating. The element hangs in the filter head, and air enters it through the shaped Venturi-Wave end cap without turbulence; the bowl has internal ribs along which the condensate runs down.
Standard equipment
The activated carbon filter has no condensate drain or clogging indication — the element is replaced by time. There is a manual valve on the bowl.

Carbon is replaced by the hours. The CF filter has no pressure drop indicator. Replace the element after 1,000 operating hours, within 12 months at the latest.

- Oil vapours, odours and tastes. Residual oil in the form of vapour is below 0.004 mg/m³.
- What does it not remove?
- Methane, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and other toxic gases and vapours.
- Why must a microfilter go before it?
- Activated carbon must not receive liquid oil. An HF or UF microfilter traps it first.
- How often should the element be replaced?
- After 1,000 operating hours, within 12 months at the latest.
