SCR-APM Maxi screw compressors: technology for demanding plants
Three equipment levels, 13 modelsThe SCR-APM Maxi range is a class above workshop machines: 7.5, 11 and 15 kW and an output of 600 to 2,000 litres per minute. The engineering is the same as in the smaller range — a permanent-magnet motor above IE4, a tapered coupling to the airend with no belts, and an inverter that holds the speed to actual demand.
What does change is the equipment. TD is 4-in-1 and adds a pre-filter, so it delivers class 2-4-2 air. FF is 8-in-1 with three-stage filtration and condensate separation, and its air exceeds class 1-4-1. The receiver is 270 or 500 l depending on the model. The packages are assembled in the Czech Republic.
Where the savings come from
35 % — no idle running
The inverter varies speed smoothly with demand, so the machine draws no power in the moments when nobody is taking air.
15 % — no pressure you do not need
On the IT7000 you set exactly the pressure you need. Every extra bar costs consumption.
5 % — no transmission losses
The motor joins the airend directly through a tapered coupling. Against V-belts that removes the loss, the tensioning and the replacements.
3 % — efficient IE4 motors
Permanent magnets and oil cooling. Efficiency exceeds the requirements of class IE4 under IEC EN 60034.
What sets the range apart
IE4 permanent-magnet motor
Cooled by oil from the airend. Its efficiency exceeds the requirements of class IE4 under IEC EN 60034 — and because oil cools it, it needs neither its own fan nor a supply of clean air.
Tapered coupling to the airend
The motor joins the airend directly through a tapered coupling. That removes transmission losses, belt changes and tensioning, and bearing and coupling service.
INOVANCE inverter with vector control
Speed varies smoothly with demand, so the machine never idles. Vector control holds torque from as low as 0.1 Hz — ordinary inverters lose efficiency below 5 Hz.
IT7000 controller with a 7" display
A colour touch display in Czech and Slovak. It tracks machine status and service intervals and lets you schedule running for the week.
You can read the status from the door
The front panel lights up and shows by colour whether the compressor is making air right now, or is stopped or unloaded. You do not have to walk over to it.
What is inside
Inside sits an oil-lubricated airend of the maker’s own design running at low speed, joined by a tapered coupling straight to the permanent-magnet motor. Around it, the air and oil filters, the oil reservoir, the cooler with its fan, the controller and the inverter cabinet.
The bare Base machine measures 890 × 720 × 930 mm at 7.5 kW and 900 × 820 × 1,040 mm at 11 and 15 kW. The TD and FF packages stand on the receiver; FF is 126 mm wider than TD because it also carries the filters and the separator.

Three equipment levels
Base — the bare machine
For plants that have the receiver and air treatment sorted separately or centrally. The smallest footprint in the range.
TD — the 4-in-1 package
Compressor, 270 or 500 l receiver, RDL refrigeration dryer and AAFM pre-filter on one frame. The pre-filter protects the dryer and lifts the air to class 2-4-2.
FF — the 8-in-1 package
Everything TD has, plus a micro-filter, an activated-carbon filter, zero-loss drains and the WOSM separator. The air exceeds class 1-4-1, oil below 0.005 mg/m³.

Three-stage filtration on the FF version
AAFM pre-filter
It sits ahead of the dryer and protects it from oil and coarse dirt. It is in the TD package too — which is exactly why TD delivers class 2-4-2 air, something a compressor with only a dryer cannot manage.
AAFS micro-filter
It catches residual liquid oil and the remaining solid particles that pass the pre-filter and the dryer.
AAFA2 activated-carbon filter
The last stage, which removes oil mist and vapour. Only with it does the oil content fall below 0.005 mg/m³.

All models: 10 bar, 400 V / 50 Hz, three-phase. The dryer and condensate drain run on 230 V / 50 Hz, single-phase; the dryer power draw (370 W on 7.5 kW, 460 W on 11 and 15 kW) is not included in the compressor figure. Noise is quoted at 1 m. FAD measured to ISO 1217 at the maximum pressure of the model.

How idle running happens
A fixed-speed compressor runs in cycles. After starting it compresses air and the motor is on load. As soon as it reaches the pressure required, it switches to idle running — it no longer makes air, but the motor keeps turning the airend and consuming energy.
Idle running makes the next start easier, but it lasts tens of seconds and spends energy for nothing. The manufacturer states it is usually tens of percent of total consumption. And an awkward rule applies: the less air you draw, the larger the idle share — and that is exactly where the biggest saving is waiting.

Dryer and condensate
Both packages carry an RDL refrigeration dryer with the eco-friendly R513a refrigerant, holding a pressure dew point of +3 °C at reference conditions. The dryer has its own electronic controller with a segment display for operation and alarm signalling.
It runs on 230 V just like the condensate drain — and its power draw is not included in the compressor figure given in the table. Why compressed air is dried at all is covered in Why and how to dry compressed air.

Service and maintenance
Cheaper upkeep
No V-belt replacement or tensioning, no cracked or leaking hoses, no main-motor bearing changes, no coupling or gearbox service. A direct drive has nothing to maintain.
Genuine parts and lubricants
To keep output up and failures away, only genuine fills and filters belong in the machine. You pick the part from the documentation or from the marking on it inside the machine.

You do not have to buy — SCRent rental
You do not have to buy a new compressor. The SCRent programme lets you take the machine on a five-year long-term rental with monthly payments — in cooperation with Raiffeisenbank.

Ventilek advises
At this size the saving is counted in hundreds of thousands, not thousands. A 15 kW machine in continuous duty burns up to CZK 360,000 a year on electricity according to the manufacturer catalogue. When the inverter takes the promised 35 % of idle running, that is more than a hundred thousand a year. Frequently asked questions
- How does Maxi differ from the smaller Mini range?
- Mainly in size: Maxi starts at 600 l/min where Mini tops out at 690. But the packages differ too — on Maxi, TD has a pre-filter as well (hence 4-in-1 and class 2-4-2) and FF has three-stage filtration including an activated-carbon filter. The dew point is +3 °C instead of +5 °C. Smaller machines are in the SCR-APM Mini range.
- What does APM mean in the designation?
- It stands for a permanent-magnet motor. The number after the dash is the motor power in kilowatts, the number after the slash the pressure in bar. The suffix -270D or -500D marks the TD package with a 270 or 500 litre receiver, -270FF and -500FF the top equipment level.
- What air does TD deliver, and what does FF?
- The TD package has the AAFM pre-filter ahead of the dryer and delivers class 2-4-2 air to ISO 8573-1. The FF package adds the AAFS micro-filter and the AAFA2 activated-carbon filter — the air then exceeds class 1-4-1 and oil content falls below 0.005 mg/m³. Condensate from FF holds under 20 ppm of oil.
- Why are there two figures for output?
- That is the inverter control range. The first figure is the minimum the machine will throttle down to at low demand, the second the maximum at peak. It is exactly this control that removes idle running, where fixed-speed machines burn electricity for nothing — the manufacturer counts 35 % of the saving from it.
- Which receiver should I pick, 270 or 500 litres?
- A bigger vessel damps swings in demand and the machine switches less often. We carry the 500 litre version for the 11 and 15 kW machines; at 7.5 kW the manufacturer offers only 270 l. The 500 l package is 421 mm longer. We also carry air receivers on their own for other machines.
- What about the dryer?
- The RDL dryer holds a pressure dew point of +3 °C and works with the eco-friendly R513a refrigerant. It has its own electronic controller with a segment display. It runs on 230 V and its power draw (370 W on the 7.5 kW, 460 W on the others) is not included in the compressor figure.
- Who makes SCR?
- Shanghai Screw Compressor Co., Ltd, founded in 2000. Manufacturing to ISO 9001, CE and UL certification, machine performance checked by SGS audits. The machines are exported to more than 80 countries. Since 2018 a joint venture has been running with the Japanese maker Anest Iwata. The TD and FF packages were designed and engineered in the Czech Republic and are assembled there too.
- What is the warranty?
- The standard warranty is two years, extendable to five years as a paid option. The extension is not capped by running hours, needs no service contract and no shortened maintenance intervals. The condition is the use of genuine lubricants and filters.
