Stainless steel pressure vessels from 5 to 3000 l

Stainless steel pressure vessels from 5 to 3000 litres, vertical and horizontal, rated for 11 bar (the horizontal 10 and 15 l vessels for 12 bar). Each size is made in two versions: in AISI304 stainless steel and in the more resistant AISI316L.
They are made by the Italian Baglioni group to Directive 2014/68/EU on pressure equipment (PED). The entire vessel is made of stainless steel with no coating, pickled and passivated inside and out.
AISI304 or AISI316L?
AISI304
The most common stainless steel. It is sufficient for compressed air and nitrogen where the vessel will not come into contact with aggressive environments or chlorides.
AISI316L
A steel with added molybdenum. It is more resistant to aggressive environments and chlorides, which is why it is chosen for chemical and damp operations.
Same dimensions
Both versions have the same dimensions, connections and weight. The only exception is the vertical 100 l vessel, whose 316L version is lower and has its side connections on the opposite side.
All sizes
Vertical vessels stand on three legs and have connections in both ends and on the shell; horizontal ones rest on two saddle feet. You will find more vessels in both orientations on the pages for vertical pressure vessels and horizontal pressure vessels.

Connection numbers and letters correspond to the drawings; a dash means that a vessel of that size does not have the connection. On vertical vessels, connection 1 is in both ends, and on horizontal ones, connection x. The vertical 100 l vessel in the 316L version is lower (1106 mm) and has its side connections in positions 2 and 7 instead of 3 and 6.

Typical uses
- Clean air, no coating. There is no coating inside that could peel off over time, and stainless steel resists corrosion from condensate. That is why these vessels are chosen where air purity matters, for example in food processing, pharmaceuticals or laboratories.
- Air, nitrogen and water. The vessels are intended for compressed air, nitrogen and compressed air with water, that is, for group 2 fluids.
- Aggressive environments. The AISI316L version with molybdenum also holds up in chemical operations and wherever chlorides are present.
- Frost and heat. Vessels up to 270 l withstand −80 to +120 °C, and larger ones −55 to +80 °C.
The vessels are not intended for group 1 fluids, that is, for flammable, explosive, toxic or oxidising substances.
Stainless steel fittings and pipework
The vessels are supplied without fittings. To keep the entire pipework in stainless steel, we also offer stainless steel fittings for them.
Safety valve
The safety valve must open at no more than the vessel’s working pressure. You can choose from our range of stainless steel safety valves.
Pressure gauge
The pressure in the vessel is shown by a pressure gauge on a shell connection, for example one from our range of 63 mm stainless steel pressure gauges.
Ball valves and threaded fittings
To shut off the connections, use stainless steel ball valves, and to connect the pipework, stainless steel threaded fittings.
Where the air comes into contact with the product, filtration also belongs downstream of the vessel, for example sterile filters for compressed air.
Transport and installation
The vessels weigh from 6 kg (horizontal 5 l) to 942 kg (vertical 3000 l). Vertical vessels stand on three legs made of bent sheet metal, and horizontal ones on two saddle feet with holes.
The base must carry the vessel’s weight concentrated on the foot plates. Vibration dampers belong under the foot plates, and the vessel is not rigidly anchored to the floor or to any structure.
Documents and inspections
The vessels are manufactured to Directive 2014/68/EU on pressure equipment (PED) and bear the CE marking. They come with a declaration of conformity stating their data-plate details, together with the instructions for use and maintenance.
The operator must have the vessel inspected regularly. Which inspections apply, and at what intervals, depends on the vessel’s volume and pressure. You will find the details in our article on operator obligations.
Pickling and passivation
After welding, the vessel is pickled inside and out to remove the oxides left by manufacturing, and passivation restores the protective layer of the stainless steel. That is why the vessels do not need any coating.

Versions on request
On request, the manufacturer can supply the vessels with external electropolishing, which reduces surface roughness. It also makes custom stainless steel vessels, for example with flanged connections or with an inspection opening.

You will find less expensive painted vessels among our vessels up to 50 l, vessels from 100 to 720 l and vessels from 1000 to 3000 l. The whole range is shown in our overview of pressure vessels.
Ventilek’s tip
Use only stainless steel tools on stainless steel. A steel wire brush or filings of ordinary steel leave iron particles on the surface; these rust and look like corrosion of the vessel. Clean it with a cloth or a stainless steel brush.
- How do AISI304 and AISI316L differ?
- AISI316L contains molybdenum, so it is more resistant to aggressive environments and chlorides. Both versions have the same dimensions, connections and weight, except for the vertical 100 l vessel.
- Which medium are the vessels intended for?
- For compressed air, nitrogen and compressed air with water, that is, for group 2 fluids.
- What temperature can the vessels withstand?
- Vessels up to 270 l withstand −80 to +120 °C, and vessels from 500 l −55 to +80 °C.
- Do the vessels have a coating?
- No. The stainless steel is pickled and passivated inside and out. On request, the manufacturer can supply external electropolishing.
- Do the vessels have an inspection opening?
- Not as standard; all connections are threaded.
- Which fittings go with the vessel?
- A safety valve, a pressure gauge and shut-off valves. The vessels are supplied without fittings; you will find stainless steel fittings in our range.
