Refrigeration dryer Hankison HDI-25 – G 3/8", 417 l/min
Code: HDI-25Related products
Product detailed description
The Hankison HDI-25 refrigeration dryer dries compressed air to a pressure dew point of +3 °C, i.e. water class 4 according to ISO 8573-1. It handles 417 l/min (25 m³/h) at 7 bar, 27 m³/h at a dew point of +5 °C and 30 m³/h at +7 °C. It operates at up to 16 bar, connects via a G 3/8" thread; power supply 230/50 V/Hz.
Dry air protects the compressed air network, air receiver, valves, pneumatic cylinders and tools against corrosion and water. The patented aluminium heat exchanger uses the cold of the outlet air to pre-cool the incoming air, which saves energy.
It belongs to the range of Hankison HDI refrigeration dryers: 17 sizes from 200 to 21,667 l/min with the same heat exchanger design.

Cabinet and dimensions

Width 305 mm, depth 360 mm, height 408 mm, weight 19 kg. Leave at least 500 mm of free space around the dryer so that the condenser has enough air and the dryer is accessible for servicing.
How it works

In the heat exchanger, the air is first pre-cooled by the dry air leaving the dryer, then the refrigerant cools it to a dew point of +3 °C and the water vapour condenses. The separator removes the droplets, the condensate leaves through the drain and the dry air is warmed up again at the outlet.
Condensate drainage and control
The zero-loss drain monitors the condensate level with a sensor and only opens when there is something to drain – no compressed air escapes. The panel shows the pressure dew point and the load, reports faults with a code (HtA, Ht2 high dew point, PF1 sensor) and uses the ESA energy-saving mode to protect the heat exchanger from freezing. The alarm can be transmitted to a remote location via a volt-free contact.
Installation and maintenance
- a pre-filter with a filtration grade of at least 10 µm belongs upstream of the dryer
- a location protected from the weather and sunlight, with at least 500 mm of free space around the dryer
- the manufacturer recommends a bypass line for maintenance; route the condensate through an oil-water separator
- room temperature up to +50 °C, inlet air up to +60 °C
- clean the drain strainer weekly and blow out the condenser regularly with compressed air
Where it is suitable
- chemicals, pharmaceuticals and petrochemicals
- electronics manufacturing
- engineering production, pneumatic tools and cylinders
- paint shops and surface treatment
Position in the system
The dryer goes downstream of the compressor and the pre-filter. The inlet air may be at most +60 °C. The dryer does not capture solid particles and oil – depending on the required purity class, add filters according to ISO 8573-1 downstream of it. For a dew point below 0 °C, you need a desiccant dryer.

Hankison is an American manufacturer of compressed air dryers and filters with a history going back to 1948. We offer its NGF filters in five filtration stages, spare elements for them and HDI refrigeration dryers.
NGF filters use the same housing for all stages, only the element differs — you can recognise the stage by the colour of the end cap. Stages SF to UF come with a pressure drop indicator and a condensate drain. HDI dryers dry the air to a pressure dew point of +3 °C.
Purity to ISO 8573-1NGF filters and HDI dryers
NGF filters — the whole range
Five stages in one housing. The stages are installed one after another from coarse to fine, each protecting the next.
- 14 sizes, G 1/4″ to 3″
- flow from 566 to 42,483 l/min
- up to 16 bar, F13 to F17 up to 11 bar
SF basic filter
At the start of filtration, where there is a lot of water. A liquid separator and 3 µm filter removes more than 99 % of liquid condensate.
- residual oil below 5 mg/m³
- handles up to 25 g of liquid per m³ of air
- orange element end cap
PF dust filter and pre-filter
Before a microfilter and after a desiccant dryer. A double depth layer captures particles from 1 µm with 99.999 % efficiency.
- residual oil below 2 mg/m³
- protects the HF and UF microfilter elements
- white element end cap
HF microfilter
Air free of oil aerosol. A coalescing filter that captures particles from 0.01 µm and removes more than 99.9 % of oil.
- residual oil below 0.01 mg/m³
- class 1-x-1 according to ISO 8573-1
- green element end cap
UF ultra-fine microfilter
For painting and sensitive instruments. The same 0.01 µm rating as HF, but ten times less oil in the air.
- residual oil below 0.001 mg/m³
- needs a PF dust filter upstream
- yellow element end cap
CF activated carbon filter
Oil vapours, odours and tastes. Two layers of activated carbon for air that comes into contact with food or medicines.
- oil vapour below 0.004 mg/m³
- always after an HF or UF microfilter
- element replaced after 1,000 hours
NGF spare elements
For all five stages and 14 sizes. The element code is the stage plus the filter size, such as HF-06 for the F06-B-HF filter.
- replace at a pressure drop of 400 mbar
- after 12 months at the latest
- stage shown by the end cap colour
HDI refrigeration dryers
Dry air with a +3 °C dew point. A patented aluminium heat exchanger cools the air in two stages and saves energy.
- 17 sizes, 200 to 21,667 l/min
- working pressure up to 16 bar
- 230 V up to HDI-600, larger sizes 400 V

The ISO 8573-1 class is written as solid particles – water – oil; x means the product does not deal with that component.
How to set up air treatment
1. Pre-filter before the dryer
An HDI refrigeration dryer needs a pre-filter rated 10 µm or finer upstream — the manufacturer requires it. Where there is a lot of water in the system, an SF basic filter does the job.
2. Dryer to match the compressor
The dryer must handle the full output of the compressor. Choose the HDI size whose flow is at least equal to the compressor output.
3. Filters after the dryer
A refrigeration dryer is followed by a PF dust filter and an HF microfilter, or a UF ultra-fine microfilter for painting and sensitive instruments. Put CF activated carbon at the very end.
4. Replace elements on time
SF and PF after 6,000 operating hours, HF and UF after 3,000, CF after 1,000 — always after 12 months at the latest, or earlier at a pressure drop of 400 mbar.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between the HF and UF microfilters?
- Both capture particles from 0.01 µm. The UF ultra-fine microfilter, however, leaves ten times less oil in the air: below 0.001 mg/m³ compared with 0.01 mg/m³ for HF.
- Why does a PF dust filter go before the microfilter?
- The PF dust filter captures solid particles and liquid before they reach the fine microfilter element. The HF or UF element then lasts longer.
- How do I recognise the element stage?
- By the end cap colour: orange SF, white PF, green HF, yellow UF and black CF. Each filter size has its own element, and the element code ends with the size number.
- Does an NGF filter also remove moisture?
- No. Filters only capture water that has already condensed. Water vapour is removed by a dryer — an HDI refrigeration dryer dries the air to a pressure dew point of +3 °C.
- Is an HDI dryer suitable for an unheated hall?
- Only where the temperature does not drop below zero. A +3 °C dew point means water will not condense until the temperature falls below +3 °C. For systems exposed to frost you need a desiccant dryer with a dew point below 0 °C.
