The pressure regulator reduces the air line pressure to the value set with the knob and holds it even when the air consumption fluctuates. It relieves excess outlet pressure by itself, so the pressure can be reduced even with no air being drawn.

Set the pressure from below. Back the knob off below the required value, then turn it up slowly until the gauge shows what you need. Finally, push the knob in to lock it.
