SPFSF stainless steel filters with a sterile element up to 14 bar

The SPFSF sterile filter is the last filtration stage of the SPF range. It has a wrapped sterile element of borosilicate microfibres with a filtration rating of 0.01 µm — solid particle class 1 according to ISO 8573-1 — and a stainless steel 1.4404 housing with a polished surface.
The SPFSF filter comes in 12 sizes (G 1/4" to 3") with flows of 1,250 to 60,000 l/min at 7 bar; working pressure up to 14 bar. It is one of the twelve stages of the SPF filters — the housing is the same for all stages, only the element differs.
SPFSF filters by size
The size determines the connection and the flow. Each size has its own PF range spare element.

The flows apply to a pressure of 7 bar and a temperature of +20 °C. Dimensions and weights according to the manufacturer; you will find further data on the product page of each filter.

When to use it
The sterile filter goes at the end of the filtration, after the fine pre-filter and the microfilter. The manufacturer designs the SPF range for packaging lines, breweries, dairies, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, the food industry and hospitals, among other uses.
The sterile element withstands −20 to +150 °C. It does not deal with oil and water vapour — a fine pre-filter, a microfilter and a dryer go before it for those.
Where to place it

At the end of the filtration, after the SPFM fine pre-filter, the SPFS microfilter and the SPFA activated carbon.
Flow by pressure
The catalogue flows apply to a pressure of 7 bar and a temperature of +20 °C. At a different pressure, they are multiplied by the correction factor: 1.88 at 14 bar.

Element and maintenance

A PF range element is fitted in the housing — for example, the PFSF-010V for the SPFSF-010. The same element also fits the PF and HPF process filters of the same size. For nine sizes, the same sterile element also has an SFS code — for example, the SFS-012V for SF sterile filters. The working temperature of the element is −20 to +150 °C.
The filter is supplied with an element, without a condensate drain. You will find all elements among the PF range spare elements.
Replace the element at least once every 12 months. Once a year, also check the housing for visible damage.
The same stage in other ranges
Stage SF also comes in process filters: PFSF up to 14 bar and HPFSF up to 50 bar. The elements are the same for all ranges.
Ventilek’s tip
The sterile element goes last. Stages that trap solid particles and oil go before the sterile filter. The sterile element is then the final safeguard of air purity.
- What filtration rating does the SPFSF sterile element have?
- 0.01 µm, solid particle class 1 according to ISO 8573-1.
- Where should it be placed?
- At the end of the filtration, after the fine pre-filter and the microfilter.
- How does it differ from SF filters?
- SPFSF has a threaded SPF range housing up to 14 bar. The SF range is a stand-alone sterile filter up to 10 bar with a DN connection for a tube or a flange.
- When should the element be replaced?
- At least once every 12 months.
