ABAC Silent Line LN piston compressors on a 270 and 500 l receiver
ABAC Silent Line LNFifteen machines with the whole compressor closed inside a sheet-metal cabinet lined with sound-absorbing foam, and the cabinet sitting on a horizontal pressure receiver — 270 or 500 litres. What stands on the floor is a single unit: pump, air reserve and controls together, with nothing to connect. Noise comes out at 85 to 89 dB Lwa for pumps that run at 95 to 102 dB in the open. There are two cabinet sizes, L1 and L2, and motors from 2.2 to 7.5 kW.
Four things that decide the choice
All fifteen machines are oil-lubricated, belt-driven, fitted with an aftercooler and stationary — they stand on the receiver feet, not on wheels. They differ in four things.
1. A 270 or a 500 litre receiver?
The receiver evens out peaks in demand, not the average. For steady work — a spray gun, machining, blowing off — 270 l is enough. For short, sharp draws such as an impact wrench or sandblasting, 500 l is better: the motor then cuts in less often.
2. An L1 or an L2 cabinet?
L1 is 580 mm wide and low, L2 measures 738 mm and stands 25 to 27 cm taller. L1 takes pumps up to 4 kW, L2 up to 7.5 kW. Where wall space or headroom is tight, width and height decide before output does.
3. An A-series or a B-series pump?
This is the difference a datasheet does not show. A39B and A49B turn at exactly the same speed inside the cabinet as in the open frame and deliver the same air — the cabinet takes 7 to 10 dB off them and costs nothing. B59, B60 and B70 are deliberately slowed inside the cabinet: they are 10 to 14 dB quieter, but they deliver less air than the same pump in the open.
4. Direct or star-delta starting?
Three machines carry an X at the end of the code — the motor starts in two steps, so the current surge at start-up is gentler. It matters where the supply is weak or where the compressor cuts in often.
Four assemblies
The code reads from the left: pump, motor rating, receiver volume, cabinet size and supply. B70-7.5-500L2T is a B70 pump with 7.5 kW on a five-hundred-litre receiver in an L2 cabinet on 400 V. An M instead of a T means a single-phase supply, an X at the end means star-delta starting.
270 l + L1 cabinet
1,522 × 580 × 1,242 mm, 248 kg. Five machines from 393 to 598 l/min — the lowest and narrowest assembly in the category and the only one that includes a 230 V machine. It fits under a sill and through a passage.
270 l + L2 cabinet
1,516 × 738 × 1,513 mm, 238 to 252 kg. Three machines from 553 to 570 l/min. The same receiver, but a taller cabinet with the control panel on a separate column; one of the machines has star-delta starting.
500 l + L1 cabinet
1,937 × 580 × 1,348 mm, 274 kg. Two machines, 570 and 598 l/min. A large air reserve while keeping a narrow footprint — an assembly for a long wall, not for a corner.
500 l + L2 cabinet
1,943 × 738 × 1,593 mm, 302 to 448 kg. Five machines from 570 to 1,070 l/min and the only assembly that takes the 5.5 and 7.5 kW pumps. Two of them have star-delta starting.
What you can see on the cabinet
The panels are sheet metal lined inside with sound-absorbing foam; the whole machine sits inside, and only the power supply and the air outlet to the receiver come out. Every panel lifts off separately, so the filter, the oil and the belts are reachable without stripping the machine down. Cooling is handled by a pulley whose spokes are shaped like fan blades — it turns with the pump and drives air onto the cylinders so the closed cabinet does not overheat.
The controls are gathered into a single panel on the side of the cabinet: main switch, pressure gauge, hour counter, and on the larger L2 cabinet an emergency stop button as well. A pressure switch runs the machine and thermal protection guards the motor. There is nowhere else on the machine you need to reach.
What the soundproofing costs
The cabinet alone does a great deal. The A39B-2.2 pump runs at 95 dB Lwa in the open Pro Line version and at 85 dB here inside the cabinet — while turning at the same 1,050 rpm and drawing the same 393 l/min. The same holds for A39B-3 (96 → 88 dB) and for both A49B pumps (96 and 97 → 89 dB): the air output is identical in both versions.
With the B-series pumps the quiet is paid for in air. B59-4 turns at 1,200 rpm inside the cabinet instead of 1,400 and draws 570 instead of 653 l/min, but 97 dB becomes 87 dB. B60-5.5 goes from 1,400 to 1,150 rpm and from 827 to 660 l/min for 88 dB instead of 102. B70-7.5 goes from 1,300 to 1,150 rpm and from 1,210 to 1,070 l/min, also for 88 dB. Anyone who needs the most air and does not care about noise will find the same pumps in the open version; anyone putting a machine into a workshop where people talk pays that difference gladly.

Both cabinets from three sides
The difference between L1 and L2 shows better in photographs than in millimetres: the smaller cabinet carries its instruments on the front face, the larger one carries them on a separate column at the left and stands a quarter of a metre taller.

What all the machines share
Oil-lubricated pump with aftercooler
An oil-lubricated unit with V-belts and an air aftercooler on the outlet — the air leaves cooler and carries less condensed water.
Cabinet with sound-absorbing foam
Sheet-metal panels lined with foam, each one removable on its own. The whole machine is inside — pump, motor and belt drive.
Pulley cooling
The spokes of the pulley are shaped like fan blades and drive air onto the pump cylinders even inside the closed cabinet.
Horizontal pressure receiver
The receiver forms the base of the whole machine and carries it on four feet. Condensate is drained by a ball valve underneath.
Central control panel
Main switch, pressure gauge, pressure regulator and hour counter in one place. A pressure switch runs the machine.
Motor protection
Thermal protection shuts the motor down on overload. These machines are built for partly continuous duty, not for running without a break.
Two-year warranty
All machines carry a two-year warranty; the catalogue extension to three years (ABA-3R) can be bought with the machine.
Ventilek recommends
This category is about not having to put anything together. The compressor, the receiver and the controls are one unit that you stand on the floor, connect to power and to the pipework — and that is it. Start choosing with the receiver: 270 litres for steady work, 500 litres for sharp draws. Only then look at litres per minute. And watch one thing the datasheet will not tell you: the A39B and A49B pumps deliver exactly as much air inside the cabinet as outside it, while the B pumps are slowed down in there. When you compare the figures with an open machine, compare them honestly.
Frequently asked questions
- 270 or 500 litres?
- It depends on how sharply you draw air, not on the output of the compressor. Tools with short, heavy draws (an impact wrench, a sandblaster) want the larger receiver; a steady draw (a spray gun, machining) manages with the smaller one. A larger receiver also means fewer motor starts per hour.
- What is the difference between the L1 and L2 cabinets?
- L1 is 580 mm wide and 1,242 mm tall on the 270 litre receiver, 1,348 mm on the five-hundred-litre one. L2 measures 738 mm wide and 1,513 or 1,593 mm tall. L1 takes pumps up to 4 kW, L2 up to 7.5 kW. L2 also carries its controls on a separate column with an emergency stop.
- Why does a machine in a cabinet sometimes deliver less air than the same pump in an open frame?
- Because the B-series pumps turn more slowly inside the cabinet — B59-4 runs at 1,200 rpm instead of 1,400, B60-5.5 and B70-7.5 at a flat 1,150. The slower running is also part of why the machine is 10 to 14 dB quieter. The A39B and A49B pumps are not slowed at all and deliver the same air as in the open version.
- What does the X at the end of the code mean?
- Star-delta starting. The motor runs up in two steps, so the current surge at start-up is gentler. Three machines in the category have it: B59-4-270L2TX, B60-5.5-500L2TX and B70-7.5-500L2TX.
- Is there a machine for an ordinary socket?
- A39B-2.2-270L1M is the only 230 V machine; the other fourteen need a three-phase 400 V supply. Even with the single-phase version, plan for the fuse rating on the plate rather than an extension lead.
- Can an air dryer be added?
- A dryer can be connected downstream of the machine. ABAC also offers a version with a refrigeration dryer built into the cabinet itself — that is a separate range with the same receivers and the same pumps.
Where to go next
This category is one of four branches of the soundproofed Silent Line LN range. They differ only in what sits under the cabinet. You will find an overview of every range in the Compressors category.
- Silent Line LN without a receiver — the same cabinets but without a receiver — for pipework or a separate tank
- Silent Line LN with a dryer — the same assemblies, with a refrigeration dryer inside the cabinet
- Silent Line LN with a 27 l receiver — the smallest machines of the range, 1.5 and 2.2 kW, tank inside the cabinet
- A39B pumps in the open version — the same pump without a cabinet — cheaper, but 95 to 96 dB
- A49B pumps in the open version — the same pump without a cabinet, 96 to 97 dB
- B59 to B70 pumps in the open version — pumps that are not slowed down — more air, but 97 to 102 dB
- The whole soundproofed ABAC Silent range — the hub of every soundproofed ABAC piston compressor
Under the European machinery directive the sound power level Lwa is stated on the machine plate; the sound pressure level Lwp is measured at a distance of four metres over a hemispherical surface and is roughly 20 dB(A) lower. All figures are manufacturer data.
