Pressure vessels and air receivers 24 l
24 l air receivers are offered in six versions, all for a working pressure of 11 bar: a painted vertical one, two painted horizontal ones (with and without feet), a horizontal one made of steel with no coating and two stainless steel ones, vertical and horizontal, in AISI304 or AISI316L.
Twenty-four litres is the typical tank size of small workshop compressors. A vessel of the same volume placed next to the compressor therefore doubles the air reserve, and the compressor will start less often. The horizontal vessel with no coating is made of carbon steel without any surface finish; otherwise it is the same as the painted horizontal vessel with feet. Both stainless steel vessels are made in AISI304 and in AISI316L steel.

A second pressure vessel for the compressor
When the compressor cannot keep up with prolonged blow-gun work or a spray gun, a second vessel with the same volume as its tank extends the time the tool works at full pressure. A horizontal one is low and disappears under a table or into a shelving unit; a vertical one takes up only a small circle of floor space and fits into a corner of the workshop.
As soon as the second vessel can be isolated from the compressor by a valve, the compressor’s safety valve no longer protects it. It therefore needs its own safety valve set to no more than 11 bar, plus a pressure gauge and a valve for draining the condensate. The vessels are supplied without fittings. Whether 24 l is enough for you or a larger vessel would be better can be worked out with the help of our advice centre on choosing an air receiver.
Vertical, horizontal or for built-in use
The 24 l volume is the smallest in which we offer vertical vessels, both painted and stainless steel. The painted one stands on legs and has connections in both ends and on the shell, so you can feed the air in from above, from below or from the side.
You can stand the horizontal vessel with feet on the floor or a shelf and bolt it to a frame. The cylinder without feet belongs in your own assembly or machine. Anyone building their own compressor often reaches for it, but the compressor unit cannot be bolted onto the vessel: the painted vessels have no brackets for a motor or a piston pump, so the unit needs its own frame.
Paint, steel with no coating, or stainless steel
The painted vessels have a blue RAL 5015 powder coating on the outside and bare steel inside, and they suit dry, heated rooms. The horizontal vessel made of steel with no coating is intended for applications where you finish the surface yourself, for example in the same colour as the rest of the machine.
The stainless steel vessels are pickled and passivated inside and out and have no coating that could peel off. They are chosen where clean air matters, for example in a laboratory or at a packaging line. Besides air, they can hold nitrogen or compressed air with water.
The painted vessels and the vessel with no coating are manufactured to Directive 2014/29/EU (SPVD), the stainless steel ones to Directive 2014/68/EU (PED). When and how a vessel is inspected is determined by national regulations according to its volume and pressure. Ventilek’s tip
Condensate collects at the bottom. On a vertical vessel, the valve for draining it belongs in the bottom end; on a horizontal one, in the connection at the bottom of the shell. So set up the horizontal vessel level, so that the water runs to the drain.
- Will a 24 l air receiver double the air reserve?
- With a compressor that has a 24 l tank, yes. The compressor then starts less often, and the tool works at full pressure for longer.
- Does a second vessel need its own safety valve?
- Yes, as soon as it can be isolated from the compressor by a valve. Set it to no more than 11 bar.
- Can I mount a compressor unit on a 24 l vessel?
- No. The painted 24 l vessels have no welded-on brackets for a motor or a compressor pump, so the unit needs its own frame.
- What is the smallest vertical pressure vessel?
- The vertical 24 l vessel, painted or stainless steel. Smaller volumes are horizontal only.
- Does the vessel with no coating differ from the painted one?
- Only in its surface. It is made of steel without any surface finish, so you can paint it yourself, for example in the colour of your machine.
