Check valves for air treatment units

A check valve in an air treatment unit lets compressed air through only in the direction of the arrow, from the supply to the outlet. When the supply pressure drops, the valve closes.
Among the air treatment units, check valves are part of the modular FUTURA range for potentially explosive atmospheres, in four sizes with G 1/4" to 1" threads. You will find the check valve that goes between the compressor and the air receiver among the compressor check valves.
Check valves by size
Size 0 has its own row: it withstands an inlet of only 12 bar and is not for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. “Inlet up to” is the highest air line pressure; the flow applies in the direction of the arrow for the largest size.
| FUTURA check valves — overview | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Version | Connection | Inlet up to | Flow up to | ATEX |
| Size 0 RCL014-F | G 1/4" | 12 bar | 750 l/min | – |
| Sizes 1, 2 and 4 RCL…-F | G 1/4"–1" | 16 bar | 16,000 l/min | some versions |
Check valves in sizes 1 and 2 are for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. When mounting, follow the direction of the arrow on the body.

How the check valve works

The check valve lets air through only in the direction of the arrow, from supply P to outlet A. When the supply pressure drops, the valve closes and does not let air back from the outlet.
The side ports branch off before the valve, on the supply side. Sizes 0 and 1 have one side port, size 2 has four.
Mounting in the unit
Mount the check valve in the direction of the arrow on the body. A valve mounted the wrong way round does not let the air through. You connect it to other components of the same size with a connection kit regardless of the thread, and to a wall with a mounting bracket.
Choose the same size as the other components of the unit; a connection kit only joins components of the same size. You will find mounting brackets and connection kits among the spare parts and accessories. At the start of the unit goes a shut-off valve with exhaust, with which you shut off the supply during maintenance.
FUTURA check valves work at temperatures from −10 to +50 °C with lubricated or non-lubricated compressed air and neutral gases.
Potentially explosive atmospheres
Check valves in sizes 1 and 2 are mechanical devices with no ignition source of their own. According to the declaration regarding Directive 2014/34/EU, you can use them in zones 1 and 2 (gases IIA, IIB, IIC) and 21 and 22 (dust IIIA, IIIB), temperature class T4, under the conditions described for the entire FUTURA range. Size 0 is not for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Ventilek’s tip
Watch the arrow. A check valve lets air through in one direction only. Before mounting, check that the arrow on the body points from the supply towards the consumer.
- In which direction does the check valve let air through?
- Only in the direction of the arrow on the body, from supply P to outlet A. When the supply pressure drops, the valve closes.
- Where are the side ports?
- Before the valve, on the supply side. Sizes 0 and 1 have one, size 2 has four.
- What pressure can the check valve take?
- 0–16 bar at the inlet, size 0 0–12 bar.
- How do I connect the check valve to the unit?
- With a connection kit to other components of the same size, regardless of the thread. You fix it to a wall with a mounting bracket.
- Is it suitable for potentially explosive atmospheres?
- Check valves in sizes 1 and 2 are, according to the declaration regarding Directive 2014/34/EU. Size 0 is not.
