Lightweight ABAC L20N compressors with 1.5 kW
single cylinder · 1.5 kW · 14–33 kgThe lightest oil-lubricated machines in the ABAC Line range: 14, 25 and 33 kg. The single-cylinder L20 pump with a 1.5 kW motor draws in 220 l/min, sits directly on the motor shaft and runs from an ordinary socket. The six-litre version is carried by the handle on the cover and delivers 8 bar; the twenty-four and the fifty ride on wheels and fill the tank to 10 bar. For a nailer, a stapler, inflating, blowing off and a ratchet wrench it is everything a DIYer or a tradesman needs — all three machines are in stock and we service the ABAC brand.
Which L20N — one pump, three tanks
The pump, the motor and the panel are the same on all three. You choose the tank — and with it the cut-out pressure and the way you move the machine about.
The six for one hand
The L20N-1.5-6CM weighs 14 kg and is carried like a suitcase — by the handle on the pump cover, with a tubular hoop protecting the panel and the gauges. Six litres is enough for a stapler, a nailer, inflating and blowing off; the switch cuts out at 8 bar. If you drive out to customers or want a compressor that comes out of the cupboard once in a while, this is the one.
The twenty-four on wheels
The 24 l compressor weighs 25 kg and is the middle of the range: the tank copes with the burst draw of a nailer or a ratchet wrench, the motor cycles calmly and you wheel it to the car by the handle. Ten bar on the switch gives a reserve for tools running at 6 to 8 bar.
The fifty with the biggest reserve
The L20N-1.5-50CM has the same pump but twice the reserve: a tyre inflator on all the wheels, blowing off a whole engine or a long run with the nailer can all draw on it without the motor cutting in straight away. The price is a machine 77 cm long that weighs 33 kg — one with its own spot in the workshop that will still wheel out to the car.

All three machines have the L20 pump with a 1.5 kW motor, one cylinder, direct drive at 2,850 rpm, a pressure switch, a pressure regulator, two gauges and a DN 7.2 quick coupling; the supply is 230 V / 50 Hz. Noise Lwa is the sound power level; at 4 m from the machine that corresponds to roughly 75 dB sound pressure.

The single-cylinder L20 with direct drive — what is inside
The L20 pump under the cover
One finned cylinder, an oil capacity of roughly 200 ml and an oil sight glass on the outside. A black cover with a fan guides the cooling air around the pump; the intake filter on the cylinder head is recessed into the outline of the cover, so it does not stick out and get knocked off in transit. On the six the cover also carries the handle you carry the whole machine by.
Direct drive, 2,850 rpm
The crankshaft sits directly on the shaft of the 1.5 kW motor — no belt, no tensioning, nothing to replace. That is why the machine is so light: the twenty-four weighs 25 kg. It is built for intermittent duty S3 30% — in any ten minutes the motor may run for no more than three and cools down for the rest; the tank and the pressure switch give it those pauses.
Pressure switch, regulator, two gauges
The switch starts the machine at the press of a button, cuts out at 8 or 10 bar and cuts back in when the pressure drops. The regulator sets the outlet pressure for the tool, one gauge shows tank pressure, the other outlet pressure; the air leaves through a DN 7.2 quick coupling — the same standard as the hoses and guns across our whole range.
Tanks of 6, 24 and 50 l
The six-litre tank sits in a tubular frame on rubber feet, and the hoop of the frame protects the panel and the gauges. The twenty-four and the fifty are horizontal tanks on two wheels and a rubber foot, with a handle; all three have a condensate drain valve underneath. Every tank carries a QR code for the AirTube app with ABAC service videos.

Machine details

Where the L20N works
DIY and the home workshop
Inflating tyres, blowing off, stapling, the odd ratchet job: the six in the cupboard or the twenty-four in a corner of the garage. An ordinary socket will do; you check the oil in the sight glass on the outside.
Tradesman on the road
A floor layer, a joiner, a kitchen fitter: a brad nailer for mouldings and a stapler take air in bursts, and the six at 14 kg rides in the boot of the car. If you fire nails all day, take the twenty-four — the motor cuts in less often.
Where the L20N is no longer enough
An impact wrench on wheel nuts, a random orbital sander and a spray gun want more than 220 l/min; for those there are the single-cylinder L25P and L30P or the V-twin V36. The L20N is a machine for tools with a short draw, not for sanding and spraying.
Oil, accessories and service
The L20 pump takes ALTAIR PRO mineral oil; the capacity is roughly 200 ml, so the quarter-litre bottle covers a change. The DN 7.2 quick coupling is the same standard as the hoses, guns and tools across our whole range. ABAC belongs to the Atlas Copco group and is one of the brands we repair in our own service workshop.
- ALTAIR ALTP-0.25 oil — The specified mineral oil in a bottle for one change.
- ALTAIR ALTP-1 oil — A one-litre bottle for several changes.
- M7 nailers and staplers — The tools the L20N is made for — air in bursts, a small tank will do.
- spiral hoses — Hoses with DN 7.2 quick couplings from the machine to the tool.
- tyre inflators with a gauge — Accurate tyre inflation — you set the pressure and the gun looks after the rest.
- blow guns — Blowing off the bench, the engine and the tools — a job the six is up to.
- ABAC compressor service — Warranty and post-warranty repairs of ABAC machines in our workshop.
Where next if the L20N is not the right fit
The L20N is the lightest oil-lubricated single cylinder in the ABAC Line range. If you need more air, a longer reserve or, conversely, a machine with no oil, there are alternatives in the Line range and beyond. You will find the whole range, with filters by power, tank and voltage, among all compressors.
- ABAC L25P and L30P oil-lubricated compressors — Stronger single cylinders with 270 and 310 l/min and tanks of 24, 50 and 90 l — for an impact wrench, a sander and a spray gun.
- the ABAC V36 V-twin — Two cylinders and 355 l/min from the same socket — for an impact wrench and a nailer without waiting.
- ABAC SUITCASE suitcase compressors — An even lighter oil-free suitcase for inflating and stapling, when you do not want oil in the car.
- small Black Wind compressors — Cheaper 6–50 l machines for home use.
- the whole ABAC Line trade range — An overview of all the Line ranges, from the suitcase to the V-twin.
- portable compressors with a 6 l tank — Six-litre machines across brands, when weight is what matters.
- compressors with a 24 l tank — Twenty-four-litre machines across brands.
- compressors with a 50 l tank — Fifty-litre machines across brands.
- 230 V compressors — Everything that runs from an ordinary socket.
- semi-professional workshop compressors — Machines for daily work in the workshop across brands.
Ventilek advises
The compressor you never get out of the cupboard is the most expensive one — the L20N is made to be carried. Fourteen kilos you lift with one hand, the twenty-four you wheel to the car by the handle. When the tools take air in bursts — a nailer, a tyre inflator, a blow gun — you do not need a big machine, you need one that is within reach. If you sand and spray, look one range up; if you inflate and staple, everything you need is here.
Frequently asked questions
- Why does the six have 8 bar and the bigger machines 10 bar?
- The six is set to 8 bar: for a stapler, a nailer, a tyre inflator and a blow gun, which work at 6 to 8 bar, that is enough, and the small tank fills to 8 bar quickly. The twenty-four and the fifty go to 10 bar: the bigger tank holds a reserve and the two extra bar are headroom for a ratchet wrench or a longer hose.
- Is 220 l/min enough for a nailer, inflating and blowing off — and what is it not enough for?
- It is. Tools with a burst draw take air from the tank and the pump tops it up before you pull the trigger again. Where the L20N stops is a continuous draw: an impact wrench on wheel nuts, a random orbital sander and a spray gun empty even the fifty in no time and the motor then runs without a break — those are jobs for the L25P, the L30P or the V-twin V36. Air displacement is the amount of air the pump draws in; how much of it reaches the tool is explained in our guide to measuring airflow.
- Will an ordinary socket cope, and why does the compressor trip the breaker?
- Yes — the 1.5 kW motor is single-phase, 230 V / 50 Hz, and runs from an ordinary socket. If the breaker trips, it is usually on start-up: a long thin extension lead or a fan heater on the same circuit pulls the voltage down and the starting current is what trips it. Give the compressor a short heavy-gauge lead and, if you can, a circuit of its own. Thermal overload protection is built into the motor — it cuts the motor out if it overheats.
- Which oil, and how often should it be changed?
- ALTAIR PRO mineral oil; the capacity is roughly 200 ml. You can see the level in the sight glass on the outside — check it before every use; change intervals and the procedure are shown in the ABAC videos once you scan the QR code on the tank with the AirTube app; oil types and grades are compared in our guide to choosing compressor oil. After work, open the valve under the tank and drain the condensate so the tank does not rust from the inside.
- How much does it weigh, and can one person carry the six?
- The six weighs 14 kg, the twenty-four 25 kg, the fifty 33 kg. The six you lift with one hand by the handle on the cover and carry up the stairs; the twenty-four you wheel by the handle and one person lifts it into the boot; the fifty rides round the workshop on its wheels, but it is best lifted into the car by two of you.
- Oil-lubricated or oil-free — why does the L20N have oil?
- The oil-lubricated L20 pump is built for low running costs and simple maintenance: an oil change is a matter of a few minutes and 200 ml. The price is checking the level and a trace of oil in the air, which does not matter for inflating, stapling and blowing off. If you want a machine for the car with no oil to look after, or one that gives clean air, reach for the oil-free SUITCASE or for oil-free compressors.
- How long can the L20N run at a stretch?
- It is a machine for intermittent duty S3 30%: in any ten minutes the motor may run for no more than three and cools down for the rest. In normal work with a nailer or a tyre inflator you will never notice — the switch only runs the motor to top up the tank. If the motor runs without a break, the tool is too big for this compressor.
All values apply to a 230 V / 50 Hz supply. The machines are built for intermittent duty S3 30%, not for continuous operation. Stock levels change daily.
