Pressure vessels and air receivers 5 l

The 5 l pressure vessel for air is the smallest air receiver we offer. You can choose from three horizontal vessels for a working pressure of 11 bar: a painted one with feet, a painted one without feet for built-in use and a stainless steel one in AISI304 or AISI316L.
Five litres serve mainly as a buffer volume: in a machine’s control air circuit, on a small pneumatic device or at a measuring instrument — in short, wherever a few litres of compressed air should be close at hand. You will find larger vessels and other versions in the overview of all pressure vessels and air receivers.
Three 5 l pressure vessels at a glance
All three vessels are horizontal and withstand the same pressure; they differ in how they are mounted and in their material. You will find the dimensions, connections and weights on each vessel’s product page.
| Pressure vessels 5 l | |||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vessel or kit | Design | Finish | Working pressure | Medium | Category |
| Horizontal pressure vessel 5 l with feet - 11 bar | horizontal with feet | paint | 11 bar | air | Small vessels up to 50 l |
| Horizontal pressure vessel 5 l without feet - 11 bar | horizontal without feet | paint | 11 bar | air | Small vessels up to 50 l |
| Horizontal stainless steel pressure vessel 5 l - 11 bar | horizontal with feet | stainless AISI304 or AISI316L | 11 bar | air, water or nitrogen | Stainless vessels |
The painted vessels with and without feet have the same diameter and length. The stainless steel vessel is made from two steels, AISI304 and AISI316L, and both versions have the same dimensions.

Where a 5 l air receiver fits
A small vessel belongs as close as possible to the point of use. It then covers short bursts of demand before the pressure in the air network drops, and the 5-litre vessel fits even where there is no room for a larger one.
The vessel with feet can stand on a shelf, in a crate or under a workbench. Both feet have bolt holes, so you can fix it to a shelf, a frame or a tabletop. The vessel without feet is a smooth cylinder that is built into a frame, a cabinet or a small device and held in place with clamps.
Painted or stainless steel
The painted vessels are made of carbon steel. On the outside, they are protected by a blue RAL 5015 powder coating; inside, the steel is bare, which is why they belong in dry, heated rooms. They withstand a working temperature of −10 to +100 °C and are manufactured to Directive 2014/29/EU on simple pressure vessels (SPVD).
The stainless steel vessel is made entirely of stainless steel, pickled and passivated inside and out, with no coating. It is intended for compressed air, nitrogen and compressed air with water and is manufactured to Directive 2014/68/EU (PED). AISI316L steel with molybdenum is more resistant to aggressive environments and chlorides than AISI304.
What to buy with a 5 l vessel
The vessels are delivered without fittings, only with a declaration of conformity and instructions for use and maintenance. For operation, they need a safety valve set to no more than 11 bar, a pressure gauge and a valve for draining the condensate, most conveniently a condensate drain valve.
If the vessel is filled by a compressor with a higher pressure than the one on its data plate, a pressure-reducing valve belongs on the inlet. The safety valve then opens if the pressure in the vessel still rises above the safe limit.
Inspections and their intervals are set by national regulations according to the vessel’s volume and pressure. What an operator in the Czech Republic must arrange is summarised in our article on the obligations of a pressure vessel operator.
Where next: larger volume and the same versions
We do not carry a smaller vessel, so the way leads only to larger volumes. You will find vessels for built-in use, stainless steel vessels or all 11-bar vessels together on these pages.

Ventilek’s tip
The 5-litre vessel has no top connection. The safety valve and pressure gauge are therefore fitted via a T-piece in the end connection of the vessel. Allow for this before you build the vessel into a frame.
- Is there a vertical 5 l pressure vessel too?
- No. All three 5 l vessels are horizontal; vertical vessels start at a volume of 24 l.
- What pressure is the 5 l vessel rated for?
- All three, the painted ones and the stainless steel one, are rated for a working pressure of 11 bar. So set the safety valve to no more than 11 bar.
- What is the difference between the vessel with feet and the one without?
- Only how it is mounted. The vessel with feet is stood in place or bolted down; the cylinder without feet is built in and held with clamps. They have the same diameter and length.
- Does the package include a safety valve and pressure gauge?
- No. The vessels are supplied without fittings; the safety valve, pressure gauge and condensate drain valve are ordered separately.
- When should I choose a stainless steel 5 l vessel?
- When air purity matters, when the vessel will hold compressed air with water, or when it will be installed in an aggressive environment. For such an environment, choose the AISI316L version.
