Product detailed description
WALTER HWK700-5.5/270P - High Pressure Cast Iron Piston Compressor, 13 Bar
HWK700-5.5/270P is the high-pressure version of the WALTER 4.0 kW platform. The cast iron twin-cylinder 2V with a 4.0 kW (5.5 HP) power input intakes 600 l/min, delivers an effective 500 l/min to the system, and compresses it up to 13 bar. The unit operates at 817 rpm, is mounted on a 270 l horizontal air receiver, and is powered by 400 V / 50 Hz. Noise level approx. 80 dB(A), 3-year warranty after registration at waltercesko.cz.
This machine is not bought for air volume – in fact, it has less than its ten-bar sibling. It is bought for the pressure: for technology that specifies a minimum of over 10 bar in the manual, below which it either does not work or works poorly. If your tools run on 8 bar, do not buy this model – with the same 4.0 kW power input, you will get 50 l/min more with the WK650-5.5/270P.
Configuration of this machine
Why choose this model
The same 4.0 kW motor delivers 550 l/min at 10 bar and 500 l/min at 13 bar. The 50 l/min difference is the exact price for higher pressure – higher pressure means more work for the same amount of air. It is good to know this in advance, because buying the high-pressure version "just in case" will reduce your performance, not increase it.
A 270 l receiver pressurized to 13 bar provides approximately 1,350 l of free air above an eight-bar distribution, while a ten-bar version provides only 540 l. Therefore, when you use the regulator to drop the output to 8 bar, you get a machine that delivers two and a half times more air between two motor starts than the ten-bar version. For impulse demands, this is a more interesting feature than the maximum pressure itself.
On this platform, higher pressure is not achieved by increasing the unit speed, but conversely: the rpm drops from 993 to 817 min⁻¹. The piston thus travels a shorter distance per hour of operation than in a ten-bar machine, which offsets the higher mechanical stress from a greater compression ratio.
The mechanical base is identical to the most frequently requested model in the range: cast iron blocks and heads, single-stage compression, oil lubrication, and v-belt drive. The high-pressure version differs in its head and valves – filters, oils, and belts are largely shared with the 10-bar version, ensuring equally good parts availability.
Design and technology

Piston, rings and cast-iron liner
The cast-iron cylinder liner and piston rings are standard service parts — the unit can be refurbished after years of use rather than discarded.

Intake filter with steel mesh
The new generation metal insert withstands repeated blowing out with compressed air, whereas a paper insert would tear after a few cleanings.

Head gaskets and valves
The redesigned cylinder head gaskets maintain pressure even after thermal cycles; valve plates are stocked as spare parts.

Inspection on a 3D measuring machine
Key dimensions of the unit are verified on a coordinate measuring machine — this ensures that parts from different series fit together perfectly.

What the data sheet doesn't tell you — calculated values
Values are calculated from manufacturer parameters and serve for comparing models with each other, not as a guaranteed figure.
Who is it for
The typical buyer is an engineering workshop or a production plant where, alongside standard tools, a specific technology with higher pressure requirements is operated – such as a pneumatic press, clamping fixture, test bench, or diaphragm pump. You will not find enough air for two workstations here; 500 l/min is roughly sufficient for one continuous draw plus short-term peaks. The deciding criterion is not the number of people in the workshop, but whether you operate a machine that does not function below 10 bar.
Typical applications
- Pressure testing of pipelines, hoses, and fittings up to 13 bar
- Pneumatic presses, riveting and pressing fixtures with a prescribed pressure above 10 bar
- Clamping and positioning fixtures in mechanical engineering production
- Diaphragm pumps and technologies with higher operating pressures
- Long workshop pipelines where a pressure reserve is needed to offset piping losses
- Standard pneumatic tools via a pressure regulator set to 6–8 bar
Where to choose a different model
Opt for the 10-bar WK650-5,5/270P on the same platform: 550 l/min instead of 500 and the same 270 l tank. The high pressure would go unused.
View recommended model →Choose the 15-bar version HWK700-5,5/270P-15P. The regulator requires a pressure drop; if you work exactly at 13 bar, a 13-bar machine will cycle almost constantly at its upper limit.
View recommended model →500 l/min is suitable for one continuous draw. The industrial high-pressure choice is HWK1200-10/500P: 960 l/min at 13 bar and a 500 l tank.

Inspections may be carried out by an authorised WALTER service centre or by yourself — provided that original parts and fluids are used and proof of purchase is retained.
3 year WALTER warranty

36 months after registration at waltercesko.cz
The warranty is provided by Walter Kompressortechnik Česko s.r.o. (Ostrava). Machine registration extends the warranty to 36 months from the date of purchase; proof of purchase is required to claim the warranty.
- Claim assessment within 14 working days, approved repairs free of charge and completed within 30 days
- After 4 repairs and a further defect, you are entitled to a replacement of the machine with a fault-free one
- You may perform the prescribed inspections yourself — using original parts and providing proof of purchase
Transport and Commissioning
The machine is delivered on a pallet. Before the first start, check the oil level, direction of rotation, and the tightness of connections; after the first 8 hours of operation, tighten the cylinder head bolts to a torque of 25 Nm. Leave the electrical connection to a professional — for three-phase machines, it is necessary to verify the correct phase sequence.
