Four hundred volts is the three-phase supply found in workshops, production sites and, across much of Europe, many family homes. We offer 610 compressors from 1.5 to 315 kW built for it — including every machine above 3 kW, because a motor that size would draw too much current from a single phase.

Why a three-phase motor
A three-phase motor spreads its power over three conductors, so less current flows through each, and its rotating field starts it without a start capacitor. That is why our 230 V range ends at 3 kW and everything more powerful runs on 400 V. The older designation 380 V refers to the same supply — today’s standard simply states 400 V.
What you will find for 400 V
Piston compressors
Two hundred and forty-seven machines from 1.5 to 15 kW. Most of them work at 10 and 11 bar: belt-driven ABAC Pro Line twin-cylinder machines, the soundproofed ABAC Silent and the cast-iron ATMOS Perfect and WALTER. One hundred and twenty-four are two-stage, and the high-pressure ABAC Tech ATH give 15 to 30 bar. Ninety-four piston machines for 400 V stand on wheels — they are listed among our mobile air compressors.
Screw compressors
Three hundred and forty-two machines from 2.2 to 315 kW with a pressure of 7 to 20 bar. Two hundred and thirty-three are base-mounted without a tank, and the air tank is chosen to match consumption; 81 have a built-in dryer. Scroll compressors
Twenty-one oil-free SCR-XA scroll compressors from 2.2 to 29.6 kW at 7, 8 and 10 bar, all in a cabinet without a tank. They supply oil-free air for surgeries, laboratories and the food industry.
Starting and the pressure switch
A larger motor draws several times its rated current when it starts. Twenty-six piston machines from 4 kW upwards therefore start in star-delta, which reduces the current peak — they are grouped under air compressors with a star-delta starter. By tank size
Most three-phase machines with a tank sit on a 270 or 500 l air tank. Machines with a 200 l tank are grouped under 200 litre air compressors, and machines for a standard socket under 230 V air compressors.
Frequently asked questions
- Is a 400 V compressor the same as a 380 V one?
- Yes. 380 V is the older designation of the same three-phase supply; today’s standard states 400 V. A 400 V machine connects to it without any modification.
- Can a 400 V compressor be plugged into a 230 V socket?
- No. A three-phase motor needs all three phases. For a single-phase socket you need a 230 V machine — our range goes up to 3 kW.
