270 litre air compressors
We offer more compressors with a 270 litre tank than with any other — over a hundred machines from 2.2 to 15 kW. It is the typical size for a garage, a joinery or a small production shop: the tank covers bursts of demand from several workstations and the machine has time to rest in between.

Finding your way through the range
Three questions quickly narrow down over a hundred machines. The first is how much air: an output of 255 to 2,000 l/min covers anything from a single workstation to a whole workshop. The second is how long the machine will run — piston for intermittent use, screw for all day. The third is pressure: 10 bar for ordinary tools, 11 bar or more where the pipework is long or the process needs higher pressure.
Single-stage or two-stage
Forty-one piston machines with a 270 l tank are two-stage: they compress air in two steps with cooling in between, reaching 11 bar or more at a lower temperature. They pay off where the compressor runs a lot and higher pressure is useful. The difference is explained on our page about 11 bar air compressors.
Screw compressors on 270 l
Twenty-nine screw machines from 5.5 to 15 kW, mostly ATMOS Albert. Twelve of them have an inverter that matches motor speed to demand — worthwhile when consumption varies during the day.
Vertical tank
Seventeen machines have a vertical tank. They perform no differently but take up less floor space, which you will appreciate in a small compressor room. All such machines are listed under air compressors with a vertical tank.
Dry air straight from the machine
Twenty-four machines have a built-in refrigerant dryer — their air is dry and suitable for spray painting and pneumatic components without further treatment. Why and how to dry the air is described in our article Why and how to dry compressed air.
Without electricity, and larger tanks
Seven machines have a combustion engine — petrol or diesel — and work on building sites or in forestry. If you need an even bigger reserve, the next step up is 500 litre air compressors; the other sizes are under air compressors.
Frequently asked questions
- How much air does a 270 l tank hold?
- About 950 litres between cutting out at 10 bar and cutting in at around 6.5 bar. On a two-stage machine that cuts out at 11 bar, the reserve is almost a third larger.
- Can I put a 270 l compressor in my workshop?
- Yes, if you have a three-phase supply — only six of them run on 230 V. Allow for a weight of 116 kg or more and space for draining condensate.
- Are 270 l compressors soundproofed?
- Thirty-four machines have the pump in a soundproof cabinet and can stand close to a workstation. The others are open and belong in a compressor room or an adjoining room.
