WALTER HWK700-5.5/270P-15P High-Pressure Cast Iron Piston Compressor - 15 Bar

The HWK700-5.5/270P-15P achieves the highest pressure in the entire WALTER range – 15 bar. The 2V cast iron twin-cylinder with a power input of 4.0 kW (5.5 HP) has an intake of 560 l/min and delivers 470 l/min to the distribution system. Pump speed 776 min⁻¹, 270 l horizontal air receiver, 400 V / 50 Hz power supply, noise level approx. 80 dB(A), 3 years warranty upon registration at waltercesko.cz.

15 bar is redundant in a standard workshop. It makes sense where technology operates at 12 to 13 bar and requires a reserve above its operating pressure, or where testing and pressurising are conducted at values that a ten-bar or thirteen-bar machine cannot reach. The highest pressure in the range comes at a cost of performance: compared to the ten-bar version on the same motor, you lose 80 l/min.

15 bar – the highest pressure in the WALTER range

15 bar is the ceiling of the entire range and is achieved by only two machines. If you have technology with a working pressure around 13 bar, this is the only variant in the 4.0 kW class that leaves you a reserve for the regulator drop and distribution losses.

270 l receiver as an energy reservoir

Above an eight-bar distribution, this receiver has approximately 1 890 l of free air available, which is more than triple what the same receiver provides on a ten-bar machine (540 l). Therefore, if you need to cover short but high-demand draws, you do not need to buy a larger machine – higher pressure is sufficient.

776 rpm and still a twin-cylinder

The higher the pressure, the slower the pump runs: 993 min⁻¹ at 10 bar, 817 at 13 bar, and 776 at 15 bar. The cast iron twin-cylinder with a large bore thus operates in the quietest mode offered by this platform, and the piston ring slide path per hour of operation is the shortest of all three 4.0 kW class versions.

Compared to the thirteen-bar version, you lose 30 l/min

The 13 bar version delivers 500 l/min; this one delivers 470. Therefore, if your technology truly requires 15 bar, you pay almost no additional performance penalty compared to the thirteen-bar version – the entire performance drop occurred during the transition from 10 to 13 bar.

Transport and Commissioning

The machine is delivered on a pallet. Before the first start, check the oil level, direction of rotation, and the tightness of connections; after the first 8 hours of operation, tighten the cylinder head bolts to a torque of 25 Nm. Leave the electrical connection to a professional — for three-phase machines, it is necessary to verify the correct phase sequence.

Do I need to change the piping and hoses for 15 bar?
Check this before connecting the machine. Standard workshop equipment – hoses, quick couplings, valves, filters – is often supplied for a maximum of around 10 bar. Everything before the pressure regulator, i.e., between the compressor and the regulator, must be dimensioned for the full tank pressure. After the regulator, components for the pressure you set are sufficient.
What is the actual difference between the 13 bar and 15 bar versions?
Intake drops from 600 to 560 l/min, delivery from 500 to 470 l/min, and speed from 817 to 776 min⁻¹. The tank, motor, and cast-iron unit are identical. The difference in performance is therefore small; only purchase the 15 bar version if your technology strictly requires it – otherwise, you are simply trading delivery for pressure that will not be used.
How long does it take to pressurise the tank to 15 bar?
Our estimate based on manufacturer parameters is approximately 8.6 minutes from zero to full pressure without consumption. This is the longest filling time of all 4.0 kW class models, resulting directly from the fact that more air fits into the same tank. Real-world operation is slightly longer than the calculation.
Can I leave it running permanently at 15 bar?
The machine is designed for 15 bar and the slow-running speed of 776 rpm facilitates long cycles, but the recommended duty cycle is always in the manual for the specific machine and is binding. In high-pressure operation, be even more diligent with maintenance – especially weekly condensate draining and a clean intake filter.
