Product detailed description
WALTER WK650-5.5/270P - Cast Iron Piston Compressor
The WK650-5,5/270P is the perfect middle ground of the WALTER range: a full cast-iron 2V twin-cylinder with a power input of 4.0 kW, intake of 630 l/min and an effective delivery of 550 l/min at a pressure of 10 bar. The unit speed drops to 993 rpm — the first in the range to go below one thousand. The air tank has a capacity of 270 l, the machine weighs 163 kg, and the dimensions are 1650 × 660 × 1150 mm. The machine comes with a 3-year warranty after registration at waltercesko.cz.
This combination covers the most common demands of auto workshops, paint shops, and metalworking plants: one person works continuously, another occasionally uses an impact wrench, and the compressor handles it without waiting for repressurisation. The drop in speed to below 1 000 rpm ensures a longer service life and quieter operation than high-speed machines of comparable power.
Configuration of this machine
Why choose this model
993 rpm is the threshold beyond which a piston compressor behaves differently: the ring sliding distance per hour of operation is shorter, the head temperature is lower, and the noise is noticeably quieter. Compared to the entry-level class of the range, which runs at 1276 rpm, the unit reduces speed by nearly a quarter while delivering double the displacement.
An effective displacement of 550 l/min covers one continuous workstation — such as an orbital sander, spray gun, or pneumatic chisel — plus the peak requirements of a second user. For two truly continuous demands, the 5.5 kW class with 740 l/min is required.
With a switching differential of 2 bar, the 270 l tank provides approximately 540 litres of free air per cycle. This is sufficient to ensure the spray gun receives stable pressure even when the motor is not running — which is crucial for surface quality in painting.
The same unit is used in the vertical VWK650-5.5/270P (saves floor space), the high-pressure HWK700 at 13 and 15 bar, and the standalone WK650P-PLATE unit on a base frame. Therefore, service parts are standardised and commonly kept in stock.
Design and technology

Piston, rings and cast-iron liner
The cast-iron cylinder liner and piston rings are standard service parts — the unit can be refurbished after years of use rather than discarded.

Intake filter with steel mesh
The new generation metal insert withstands repeated blowing out with compressed air, whereas a paper insert would tear after a few cleanings.

Head gaskets and valves
The redesigned cylinder head gaskets maintain pressure even after thermal cycles; valve plates are stocked as spare parts.

Inspection on a 3D measuring machine
Key dimensions of the unit are verified on a coordinate measuring machine — this ensures that parts from different series fit together perfectly.
Technical Data WK650-5.5/270P
What the data sheet doesn't tell you — calculated values
Values are calculated from manufacturer parameters and serve for comparing models with each other, not as a guaranteed figure.
Who is it for
A typical buyer is an auto or tyre workshop where one mechanic works continuously and another uses an impact wrench only occasionally. It is equally suitable for paint shops, where pressure stability is key, and for metal fabrication for grinding and chiselling. It is under-dimensioned for the simultaneous continuous operation of two workstations or for sandblasting — for those applications, the 5.5 or 7.5 kW class is appropriate.
Typical applications
- HVLP spray gun during painting — stable pressure throughout the spraying process
- 1/2" impact wrench in a tyre workshop, wheel by wheel
- Orbital sander for surface preparation
- Pneumatic chisel and needle scaler
- Blowing and cleaning parts with compressed air
- Blowing in optical cables (FTTH) for shorter sections
Where to choose a different model
For two continuous draws, you need 740 l/min. The 5.5 kW class can handle this while running even slower — 902 rpm.
View recommended model →The vertical version has the same unit and the same 270 l tank, just positioned upright — saving roughly half of the floor space.
View recommended model →The high-pressure HWK700 version delivers 13 or 15 bar. The delivery rate is lower (500 or 470 l/min respectively) — higher pressure comes at the cost of volume.

Service and maintenance to maintain the warranty
Inspections may be carried out by an authorised WALTER service centre or by yourself — provided that original parts and fluids are used and proof of purchase is retained.
3 year WALTER warranty

36 months after registration at waltercesko.cz
The warranty is provided by Walter Kompressortechnik Česko s.r.o. (Ostrava). Machine registration extends the warranty to 36 months from the date of purchase; proof of purchase is required to claim the warranty.
- Claim assessment within 14 working days, approved repairs free of charge and completed within 30 days
- After 4 repairs and a further defect, you are entitled to a replacement of the machine with a fault-free one
- You may perform the prescribed inspections yourself — using original parts and providing proof of purchase
Transport and Commissioning
The machine is delivered on a pallet. Before the first start, check the oil level, direction of rotation, and the tightness of connections; after the first 8 hours of operation, tighten the cylinder head bolts to a torque of 25 Nm. Leave the electrical connection to a professional — for three-phase machines, it is necessary to verify the correct phase sequence.
