The Pro Line A-X has the same pumps as the Expert and Extensive ranges — the single-stage A29B, A39 and A39B and the two-stage A49B — with a 2.2 to 4 kW motor, 320 to 595 l/min of air displacement and a horizontal 50 to 270 l tank. The oil-lubricated pump runs at 1,050 to 1,400 rpm and fills the tank to 10 or 11 bar. The range is on clearance: five machines on 400 V and one for a 230 V socket are in stock, and once they are sold we will not restock them; we service the ABAC brand.
Which A-X — pump, tank, socket
You choose three times: how much air the pump should deliver and at what pressure, how much of it the tank should hold, and which socket the machine will run from.
A29B, A39 and A39B — single stage, 10 bar: 320, 393 and 486 l/min
The A29B with 2.2 kW draws in 320 l/min at 1,300 rpm and sits on the fifty for a 230 V socket — a machine for tyre inflation, blowing off and a gun used in bursts. The A39 with the same motor gives 393 l/min at 1,050 rpm on the hundred, the A39B with 3 kW gives 486 l/min at 1,300 rpm on the ninety; both on 400 V. All three fill the tank to 10 bar.
A49B — two stages, 11 bar: 444 and 595 l/min
Two cylinders in series: the first compresses the air, the intercooler cools it and the second pushes it up to 11 bar. With 2.2 kW at 1,050 rpm it gives 444 l/min on the 150, with 4 kW at 1,400 rpm 595 l/min on the ninety or on the stationary 270 l tank. Higher pressure in the tank means a bigger reserve for an impact wrench and a grinder; all three on 400 V only.
Tank and socket: 50 to 270 l, CM = 230 V, CT = 400 V, FT = on feet
The tank does not add displacement, but it gives the pump its pauses: 50 l for a gun and tools used in bursts, 90 and 100 l for one workstation, 150 l for longer work, 270 l as a reserve for a workshop where several people draw air. CM means a single-phase motor for a 230 V socket and wheels, CT a three-phase motor on 400 V and wheels, FT a three-phase motor and feet — the A49BX-4-270FT stands in one place by the air main.

The single-stage A29B, A39 and A39B pumps fill the tank to 10 bar, the two-stage A49B to 11 bar. Pump speed: A29B and A39B 1,300 rpm, the A39 and the A49B with 2.2 kW 1,050 rpm, the A49B with 4 kW 1,400 rpm. On every machine: an oil-lubricated pump with an oil sight glass, a pressure switch, thermal overload protection on the motor, a pressure regulator with two gauges and a DN 7.2 quick coupling, a condensate drain valve; CM and CT on two front swivel castors with brakes and a removable handle, FT on feet. Noise: the first figure is the sound power level Lwa, the second the sound pressure at 4 m from the machine. All six machines are on clearance — once they are sold, we will not restock them.

How the A-X differs from the Expert and Extensive, and why it is on clearance
Three Pro Line ranges, one family of pumps. The A-X is the previous generation with basic equipment — it will no longer be made, which is why it is now being sold off at a lower price.
The same pump, the same air
Under the wire belt guard sit the very same pumps that ABAC fits to the Expert and Extensive ranges: the A29B, A39, A39B and the two-stage A49B. Displacement, speed, pressure and tank are the same — and so are the intake filters, valves and pump oil, which our workshop supplies for all three ranges.
Basic equipment with no extras to pay for
The A-X leaves out what an ordinary workshop will not use: the pressure regulator comes without the filter the Expert has, the belt guard is wire instead of moulded, and the single-stage machines have no aftercooler. Everything the machine needs for work stays: a pressure switch, thermal overload protection on the motor, two gauges, a DN 7.2 quick coupling and, on the CM and CT, castors with brakes and a handle.
A lower price, because it is on clearance
The A-X will no longer be made; we sell the units in stock at a lower price than the corresponding Expert or Extensive, and once they are sold we will not restock them. The warranty is the same as on the other ABAC ranges: 2 years on the machine with an optional extension to 3 years at extra cost, and 10 years on the tank against rusting through. If you want a filter-regulator, an aftercooler, a moulded guard — or a machine that will still be on offer in a year — choose from the ABAC PRO Line ranges.
V-belts instead of direct drive — what is inside
The pump on a pulley, the motor next to it
The motor drives the pump through V-belts, so the pistons run at 1,050 to 1,400 rpm — slower than direct-drive pumps, which turn with the motor. They do fewer cycles per shift, heat up less, and the belt is a part you replace after years without opening up the pump. The belt and pulley are covered by a wire guard.
Oil-lubricated pump with an oil sight glass
The A29B, A39, A39B and A49B pumps are oil-lubricated: oil from the crankcase lubricates the crank mechanism and the sight glass on the crankcase shows the level without opening anything. For feeding tools, blowing off and tyre inflation it is the simplest design; where a trace of oil in paint or on upholstery would be a problem, that is a job for an oil-free machine.
A49B: two stages and an intercooler
On the A49BX the first cylinder compresses the air, the finned intercooler tube cools it and the second, smaller cylinder pushes it up to 11 bar. The air enters the tank cooler and the pump works with less load on each cylinder; on these three machines an aftercooler follows the pump.
Tank, switch and outlet
A horizontal 50 to 270 l tank rated at 10 or 11 bar with a condensate drain valve. The pressure switch starts and stops the motor according to pressure, and the motor has thermal overload protection. On the outlet there is a pressure regulator, two gauges — tank pressure and tool pressure — and a DN 7.2 quick coupling.

Where the A-X works
Tyre shop and garage
An impact wrench, tyre inflation, blowing off and a ratchet: the A39BX with 486 l/min or the two-stage A49BX with 444 to 595 l/min and 11 bar holds a reserve even for two people at once. The ninety on castors travels between the lifts, the 270FT stands by the air main and feeds air round the whole workshop.
Trade workshop
Joiner, locksmith, assembly shop: a stapler, a sander, a spray gun and blowing off. The A29BX on 230 V moves without an electrician, the A39X-2.2-100CT on 400 V gives 393 l/min and 100 l of reserve for longer work with a sander.
Where direct drive is not enough
Anyone moving from a direct-drive machine to a belt-driven one gains a lower pump speed, tanks up to 270 l and a 2.2 to 4 kW motor. Where another ABAC PRO Line machine is already running, the A-X fits the same service — intake filters, valves and pump oil are shared.
Accessories and service
A belt-driven machine with basic equipment goes with a regulator with a filter at the workstation when the air feeds a spray gun, and with tools fitted with a DN 7.2 quick coupling — the same standard as the hoses, guns and tools across our whole range. ABAC belongs to the Atlas Copco group and is one of the brands we repair in our own service workshop.

Where next if the A-X is not the right fit
The A-X is the basic belt-driven ABAC range for a workshop where a trace of oil in the air does not matter. If you want more equipment, oil-free air, a smaller machine for an ordinary socket or a different tank, there are alternatives at ABAC and beyond. Ventilek advises
The same pump as on the Expert at a lower price, while stocks last — that is what the Pro Line A-X clearance is about. If you tighten, grind and blow off in the workshop, you can do without the filter-regulator and the moulded belt guard; a regulator, two gauges and a quick coupling are enough. Put the money you save into a bigger tank or into the two-stage A49BX with 11 bar instead. For a 230 V socket there is now only the A29BX fifty; the others want 400 V. Intake filters, oil and pump parts will still be there once the machines are sold out — the pumps are the same as on the Expert. And if you spray paint or adhesive, take a look at the oil-free Expert Zero.
Frequently asked questions
- What does the X in A29BX, A39X and A49BX mean, and how do the machines differ from the Expert and Extensive?
- X marks the previous generation of the Pro Line range, which is on clearance: the same A29B, A39, A39B and A49B pumps as on the Expert and Extensive ranges, simpler equipment (a regulator without the filter the Expert has; a wire belt guard; no aftercooler on the single-stage machines) and a lower price. Displacement, speed, pressure and tank are the same on the corresponding models; all three ranges stand side by side in the overview of the ABAC PRO Line ranges.
- Why do these compressors have V-belts rather than direct drive?
- The belts let the pump run slower than the motor: 1,050 to 1,400 rpm instead of motor speed. The pistons and valves do fewer cycles per shift and the pump heats up less; the belt is a part you replace after years without opening up the pump. Direct drive is lighter and suits smaller machines for an ordinary socket — ABAC has those in the Line range.
- Which model plugs into an ordinary 230 V socket, and which need 400 V?
- The A29BX-2.2-50CM with a single-phase motor runs from a 230 V socket. The A39X-2.2-100CT, A39BX-3-90CT, A49BX-2.2-150CT, A49BX-4-90CT and A49BX-4-270FT have a three-phase motor on 400 V. Single-phase machines of all brands can be compared among 230 V compressors.
- Single-stage at 10 bar, or the two-stage A49BX at 11 bar — when is the second stage worth it?
- When tools draw air for a long stretch or several people draw it: an impact wrench in a tyre shop, a grinder, two workstations. The two-stage A49B compresses the air in two steps with an intercooler between them, fills the tank to 11 bar, and so the tank holds more air ready for immediate use. For a gun used in bursts, tyre inflation and blowing off, a single-stage machine at 10 bar is enough.
- What does clearance mean — will there be spare parts and service for the A-X?
- The A-X range is no longer made and we are selling the last units; once they are sold, the Expert and Extensive take its place in the range. The A29B, A39, A39B and A49B pumps in them are the same, so intake filters, oil and pump parts remain available and we repair the machine in our workshop like any other ABAC. The price is lower precisely because the range is on clearance — not because of a different pump.
- What is the warranty?
- Two years on the machine, with an optional extension to three years at extra cost when you buy, and ten years on the tank against rusting through. That goes hand in hand with routine maintenance as per the manual: draining the condensate, checking the oil level in the sight glass, changing the oil and cleaning the intake filter.
- Is it suitable for a tyre shop, a garage or a trade workshop?
- Yes — depending on how much air the tools take. An impact wrench and tyre inflation in a tyre shop want the A39BX with 486 l/min or the two-stage A49BX with 11 bar; a stapler, a gun and blowing off in a trade workshop get by with the A29BX on 230 V or the A39X on 400 V. - How loud are the A-X compressors?
- The A29BX, A39X and A39BX have 93 dB Lwa and 73 dB at 4 m, the two-stage A49BX-2.2-150CT 91 / 71, the A49BX-4-90CT 95 / 75 and the A49BX-4-270FT 97 / 77. That is the noise of a belt-driven machine for the workshop, not for an office; if you need fewer decibels, ABAC has the Super Silent OS range. Stand the machine on a level floor and not in a corner — reflected noise adds decibels.
- Which tank — 50, 90, 100, 150 or 270 l — and what does FT mean on the A49BX-4-270FT?
- The tank decides how long the tools can draw air before the pump cuts in: 50 l for a gun used in bursts, 90 and 100 l for one person, 150 l for longer work, 270 l as a reserve for a workshop with several people. FT means a stationary version on feet without castors — the A49BX-4-270FT stands by the air main. Ninety-litre machines of other brands are among compressors with a 90 l tank.
- Which models are in stock, and what happens once they are sold?
- Six machines are in stock — the last units, which we will not restock once they are sold: the A29BX-2.2-50CM, A39X-2.2-100CT, A39BX-3-90CT, A49BX-2.2-150CT, A49BX-4-90CT and A49BX-4-270FT. Once they are gone, the Expert and Extensive with the same pumps take their place in the range; anyone who needs a machine that will still be available a year from now should choose from those ranges today.
All values apply to a 50 Hz supply. Air displacement is the amount of air the pump draws in; how much of it reaches the tool depends on the pressure and the tank. Noise is given as the sound power level Lwa and the sound pressure at 4 m from the machine. A piston compressor works in cycles (topping up the tank and pausing), not continuously.
