The SCR-2/8XA is an oil-free scroll compressor with a free air delivery of 240 l/min (14.4 Nm³/h) at a working pressure of 8 bar. The air is compressed by a scroll block from ANEST IWATA, and the total power input is 2.2 kW. There is no oil in the compressed air — not filtered out, but simply absent, because there is none in the machine. The noise level of 55 dB(A) makes it the quietest machine in the whole range.

Why 8 bar in particular

This version delivers 240 l/min, which is 4% less than the seven-bar variant of the same machine (250 l/min) — and that at the same 2.2 kW power input. Higher pressure is always paid for in air. Buy it only when you genuinely need 8 bar; "just in case" is an expensive habit.

Inside the SCR-2/8XA

One block, a simple design

The SCR-2/8XA has a single ANEST IWATA scroll block driven by a 2.2 kW motor through V-belts. No oil circuit, no separator, no disposal of oily condensate. Servicing comes down to the intake filter, the belts and inspection — and because the scrolls never touch in operation, there is not even a sealing ring here to wear away. This is the smallest machine in the whole range and, at 55 dB(A), also the quietest.

What Class 0 means

ISO 8573-1 divides compressed air into classes by the content of solid particles, water and oil. For oil, Class 1 permits at most 0.01 mg per cubic metre. Class 0 is stricter than Class 1 and cannot simply be declared — it has to be proven by measurement. On the SCR-XA range it was verified by TÜV Rheinland. The difference from an "oil-free" piston machine is fundamental: the SCR-2/8XA has nowhere to get oil from, because the scrolls never touch in operation and there is no lubricant anywhere in the pressure circuit. This is not oil that has been filtered out, but oil that was never in the machine.

Where to put a machine like this

Put it in the next room and you will not know it is there with the door closed. In a surgery or a laboratory that is the main argument. The machine measures 550 × 470 × 770 mm (L × W × H) and weighs 110 kg, so it takes up 0.26 m² of floor. Cooling air is drawn in at the sides and the heat is blown out at the rear where the fans are — leave clear space behind the machine and allow for removing the heat from the room. The compressed air outlet is 1/2".

What the machine consumes

For every cubic metre of air per minute this model takes roughly 9.2 kW of rated power input (2.2 kW for 240 l/min). It is a figure calculated from the manufacturer’s table, so it can be compared directly with the machine you are considering alongside it. The machine runs at fixed speed, so at full duty it draws full power; for strongly fluctuating demand the multi-block design from the SCR-7XA up is the better fit.

SCR9000 control unit

It is operated from a colour seven-inch touchscreen or eight navigation buttons. It shows pressure, temperature, energy consumption and running hours, keeps track of service intervals and returns to operation on its own after a power cut. Via Modbus RS485 it can join a network control of up to sixteen compressors.

Oil in the air is a problem anywhere the air touches the product, the packaging or a person. With an output of 240 l/min the SCR-2/8XA suits surgeries, laboratories and workshops with one or two points of use.

Where to look if this model is not the one

The eight-bar two is the middle path: ten litres a minute less than the seven-bar SCR-2/7XA, but with a bar more. If you need the same pressure and more air, the next one up is the SCR-4/8XA. Free air delivery is measured to ISO 1217, Annex C. The noise level is sound pressure to ISO 2151. The air purity class is defined by ISO 8573-1. The figures given are the manufacturer’s rated data and apply to intake air at 20 °C and 1 bar absolute.
