A twenty-litre canister of heavily additised mineral Rotair Plus. The manufacturer recommends it for screw compressors running between 2,000 and 4,000 hours a year in mild climatic conditions — that is typical single- to two-shift industrial duty.
When mineral is enough and when it is not
A mineral oil with a good additive package takes a lot — Rotair Plus holds 4,000 running hours and an ambient of up to 35 °C. Below that line a synthetic would only be dearer, not better.
As soon as the compressor room is over 30 °C with damp and dust as well, or the machine runs around 8,000 hours a year, the manufacturer sends you straight to Rotair Xtra. The table of conditions is in the category description.
What the manufacturer states
- Genuine lubricant for ABAC SPINN screw compressors.
- Viscosity grade ISO VG 46 — the same across all four Rotair oils.
- The manufacturer quotes the service life at normal temperature and humidity and in a dust-free environment.
- The oil filter and separator are changed together with the oil.
- Density at 15 °C 0.88 kg/dm³, viscosity index 102, pour point -33 °C.
- Ambient temperature range 0 to 35 °C, colour clear to light brown.
How it differs from its siblings
The smaller pack is RTP-5, the drum RTP-209. The cheaper basic oil is RTR-20, the synthetic for the hardest plants RTX-20, and the food grade RTF-20.

Change the filter and separator along with the oil. New oil into an old filter is an expensive half measure.
Technical data follow the supplier’s datasheet and the manufacturer’s documentation. The change interval applies at normal temperature and humidity and in a dust-free environment. Oil is drained warm, with the machine shut down and depressurised.
