A twenty-litre canister of synthetic Rotair Xtra. It is meant for the hardest industrial applications running 8,000 hours a year and more — that is, machines that run practically all the time. Ambient up to 46 °C.
What a synthetic does better
The synthetic base has a viscosity index of 133 against 98 for the basic mineral oil. In practice that means the oil changes thickness less with temperature — it will turn over cold and still hold its film hot.
The second difference is a pour point of −57 °C against −33 °C for the mineral oils. This is not about frost in the hall but about how stable the base is: an oil that only sets far below zero is also considerably tougher at high temperature.

How it differs from its siblings
The smaller pack is RTX-5, the drum RTX-209. Milder conditions need only the mineral RTP-20 or RTR-20; food plants take RTF-20.

Eight thousand hours is a promise at normal temperature and humidity and without dust. In a steelworks expect less — and better have the oil tested.
Technical data follow the supplier’s datasheet and the manufacturer’s documentation. The change interval applies at normal temperature and humidity and in a dust-free environment. Oil is drained warm, with the machine shut down and depressurised.
