WALTER VWK430-3,0/90P - Vertical Cast Iron Piston Compressor
The VWK430-3,0/90P is the vertical entry-level version of the WALTER range. The twin-cylinder all-cast iron unit in 2V configuration has a power input of 2.2 kW, intake of 420 l/min and an effective delivery of 340 l/min at a pressure of 10 bar. It operates at 1 276 rpm, features a three-phase 400 V / 50 Hz power supply, and a noise level of approx. 80 dB(A).
This machine is not purchased for its performance – it has the same as the horizontal version of the 2.2 kW class. It is purchased for the floor space: the vertical 90 l receiver stands against the wall and takes up a fraction of the area that a horizontal tank would block in the workshop. The vertical design changes nothing about the mechanics: the same 2V two-cylinder cast iron unit, the same 1 276 rpm, and the same 430 l/min intake and 340 l/min displacement. Only the orientation of the pressure vessel changes, meaning how the machine stands in the workshop – not what it can do.
The horizontal sibling WK430-3,0/100P has 100 l, while this one has 90 l. With a difference between the cut-in and cut-out pressure of 2 bar, this means 180 l of free air per cycle compared to 200 l. With a continuous draw of 100 l/min, this results in approximately 24 motor starts per hour compared to 21 for the 100 l version – a difference that is negligible during operation.
2.2 kW at 400 V means a significantly lower starting current than the same motor on a single phase. You do not need a dedicated circuit with a slow-characteristic circuit breaker, and the workshop lights will not flicker every time the motor kicks in. If you do not have a three-phase connection, an identical version VWK430-3,0/90AP for 230 V is available.
From a 2.2 kW input, 340 l/min is delivered to the distribution, which is 154.5 l/min per 1 kW. You will not find a higher value in the WALTER range: all machines in the 2.2 kW class have it, and more powerful platforms do not exceed it. Filling an empty 90l tank to 10 bar takes approximately 2.6 minutes according to our calculations.

The cast-iron cylinder liner and piston rings are standard service parts — the unit can be refurbished after years of use rather than discarded.

Transport and Commissioning
The machine is delivered on a pallet. Before the first start, check the oil level, direction of rotation, and the tightness of connections; after the first 8 hours of operation, tighten the cylinder head bolts to a torque of 25 Nm. Leave the electrical connection to a professional — for three-phase machines, it is necessary to verify the correct phase sequence.
