WALTER VWK430-3,0/90AP Vertical Cast Iron Piston Compressor - 230 V
The VWK430-3,0/90AP is the only machine out of 28 models in the WALTER range that is both vertical and designed for a standard single-phase 230 V / 50 Hz network. The 2V cast-iron twin-cylinder has a power input of 2.2 kW, intake of 420 l/min, an effective displacement of 340 l/min at 10 bar and operates at 1 276 rpm. The 90 l air receiver is vertical.
It is a solution to two limitations at once: lacking a three-phase connection and having no space to place the machine. There are a total of 5 models in the 230 V range, but the other 4 are horizontal or without a tank – this is the only one that stands upright and saves floor space. Why choose this model
Five WALTER machines run on a standard single-phase network: horizontal versions with 50, 100 and 200 l, a separate unit on a base frame, and this vertical model. If you are dealing with both a lack of three-phase power and a lack of space, you have no other choice in this range.
The compression part is identical to the three-phase VWK430-3,0/90P version: cast iron blocks and heads, two cylinders in a 2V configuration, single-stage compression, oil lubrication, and V-belt drive. The intake of 430 and delivery of 340 l/min are the same; only the motor type and connection method change.
2.2 kW on a single phase means a high starting current. The machine typically requires its own dedicated supply circuit, a circuit breaker with a slow characteristic (usually 16 A, char. C – refer to the manual for the exact value) and a supply line dimensioned according to the length. Do not use an extension lead on a reel; incorrect connection to the mains is also grounds for voiding the warranty.
Every start of a single-phase motor creates a current peak that must be handled by the circuit breaker and the supply line. A 90 l tank provides 180 l of free air per cycle at a pressure difference of 2 bar – with a continuous draw of 100 l/min, this means approximately 24 starts per hour instead of significantly more frequent switching seen with a small tank.

Transport and Commissioning
The machine is delivered on a pallet. Before the first start, check the oil level, direction of rotation, and the tightness of connections; after the first 8 hours of operation, tighten the cylinder head bolts to a torque of 25 Nm. Leave the electrical connection to a professional — especially for single-phase machines: they require a dedicated circuit and a circuit breaker with a slow characteristic.
