Altair Plus is a synthetic oil for multi-shift duty at high temperature. A synthetic base has molecules all of one size, so the oil does not change with temperature the way mineral oil does — and in a hot compressor room it stays in condition considerably longer.
When synthetic pays off
What decides is the temperature in the compressor room, not the weather outside. A small unventilated room, a machine under the roof or in a hall with furnaces — there the oil heats beyond what a mineral base is designed for.
Synthetic oil costs more per litre, but on a machine that runs all the time the difference comes back as less wear and a cleaner discharge. On a compressor running two hours a day it will not come back — mineral is enough there.

How many changes it covers
The five-litre canister covers a full change on a B79 or BV89 (5.111 l) and on a B70 (4.000 l). On smaller machines it lasts two or three changes — but count on an opened pack being used up, not stored for years.
How it differs from its siblings
The mineral equivalent for multi-shift duty without heat is ALT150-5. Industrial compressors in continuous duty call for ALTU-5, an ordinary workshop for ALT-1.

Never mix mineral with synthetic. Changing over means flushing the machine and replacing the filters, otherwise sludge forms.
Technical data follow the supplier’s datasheet and the manufacturer’s documentation. The change interval applies at normal temperature and humidity and in a dust-free environment. Oil is drained warm, with the machine shut down and depressurised.
