For a 270 l compressor air receiver, you can choose from ten vessels and two fittings kits. For 11 and 16 bar, there are vertical and horizontal vessels painted, hot-dip galvanised or with the ALM coating, plus a fully equipped vessel, two stainless steel vessels, a vacuum vessel for −1 bar and high-pressure vessels for 32 and 42 bar.

A volume of 270 l is the smallest in which 16-bar vessels and vessels with the ALM coating for the food industry are made. It typically serves as the main air receiver downstream of a smaller screw compressor or as a larger reserve for a piston compressor in a workshop where tools are used all day. The standard vertical and horizontal 11-bar vessels come in three finishes: paint, zinc and ALM. At 16 bar, only the vertical one has them; the horizontal one is painted only.

Air receiver for a compressor: which vessel pressure

The pressure on the vessel’s data plate must be at least as high as the maximum pressure the compressor delivers into it. A compressor up to 10 bar needs an 11-bar vessel, and a compressor that cuts out at 13 or 15 bar a 16-bar vessel. The vertical 16-bar vessel has the same dimensions as the 11-bar version. The high-pressure VVP270-32 belongs with a 30-bar compressor and the VVP270-42 with a 40-bar compressor; both can also hold nitrogen, argon, helium, oil and oxygen, but not hydrogen. The vacuum vessel VVP270-V, on the other hand, is for a vacuum down to −1 bar with a vacuum pump that serves several suction cups or clamping points.

Paint, hot-dip zinc, ALM or stainless steel

The painted vessel has a blue RAL 5015 powder coating on the outside and bare steel inside; it belongs in dry, heated rooms. The hot-dip galvanised one is protected inside and out, so condensate does not eat it away, and it copes even with a damp compressor room.

The vessel with the ALM coating has an epoxy coating approved for contact with food inside and blue paint outside. It belongs in food and beverage production and anywhere the air comes into contact with the product; fully equipped vessels are not supplied with it.

The stainless steel VVS270-11 and VHS270-11 in AISI304 or AISI316L steel have no coating and can even stand outdoors in frost; just protect the automatic condensate drain from freezing.

Fittings for the 270 l vessel

The vertical 270 l vessel rated for 11 bar takes the KVP270-11 kit (painted) or KVG270-11 (galvanised), with a safety valve set to 10.5 bar, a pressure gauge, ball valves, a condensate drain valve and the mounting hardware. The kit is not suitable for the 16-bar vessel: with a 15-bar compressor, the valve would blow off every time the compressor pumps up to pressure.

The fully equipped vessel VVP2-270-11A has the same fittings mounted and comes with TÜV certification of the pressure assembly. It is the largest vessel with the smaller fittings; from 500 l, both the kits and the fully equipped vessels have larger valves and a pressure gauge with a test cock.

The standard 270 l vessels and the fully equipped one comply with Directive 2014/29/EU (SPVD), the stainless steel and high-pressure ones with Directive 2014/68/EU (PED), and the vacuum vessel with the EN 286-1 standard. Is a horizontal 270 l vessel made for 16 bar?

No. The kit’s safety valve is set to 10.5 bar and suits only compressors that cut out at no more than 10 bar.
