WHFIT welded stainless steel filters with a thread up to 50 bar

WHFIT filters from the manufacturer Omega Air have a welded housing made of stainless steel 1.4404 with threaded connections for pressures up to 50 bar and FKM seals. The manufacturer designs them for compressed air and other gases where there is a risk of corrosion or where the housing must be made of stainless steel.
Twelve filtration stages: a cyclone separator with a cyclone element, 25 and 5 µm stainless steel meshes, 20 and 1 µm sintered and welded pre-filters, a 3 µm fibre pre-filter, a 1 µm dust filter, a 0.1 µm fine pre-filter, a 0.01 µm microfilter and activated carbon. The range has 8 sizes with G 1/2" to G 3" threads, with flows of 2,500 to 40,000 l/min at 7 bar. It is one of the stainless steel process filters.

Each tile leads to a stage with a table of sizes and spare elements.

WHFITC cyclone separators
The cyclone element separates water and oil droplets; the first stage of the range.

Solid particle class 1 for activated carbon A only applies when an S microfilter is installed before it. The manufacturer does not state a class for the stainless steel meshes and sintered elements. The temperature is the limit of the element; the housing withstands +150 °C.

How to put the filtration together

The stages are arranged from coarse to fine in the direction of flow. Each stage protects the finer stages after it, so their elements last longer. Only the stages needed for the required air purity are installed in the air line.
The cyclone separator C is at the start and separates condensate droplets. The welded pre-filters IW20 and IW1 are a different design of the 20 and 1 µm stages — they are used instead of the sintered I20 and I1. The fine pre-filter M goes before the microfilter S and protects its element; a microfilter S goes before activated carbon A.
Sizes and dimensions

The size determines the connection, the flow and the housing dimensions. All stages of the same size have the same housing; only the element differs. Each size has one PF range element with the same size number; the cyclone separator has a cyclone element.
Height A is 244 to 1,028 mm, the weight 2.6 to 11.5 kg.

Flow at a different pressure

The flows apply to a pressure of 7 bar and a temperature of +20 °C. At a higher pressure the filter passes more air: 2.13 times as much at 16 bar and 6.38 times as much at 50 bar.

Housing and connection

Housing: welded stainless steel 1.4404 for pressures up to 50 bar, 1.4301 on request, FKM seals (EPDM or silicone on request). It withstands temperatures from −20 to +150 °C; the actual limit depends on the seals and the element.
For oil separation, a coalescing element (fine pre-filter M or microfilter S) is fitted in the housing; the air flows through it from the inside out, and the filter is mounted head up with the bowl down.
The filter is supplied with an element, without a condensate drain.
Accessories

MDHI 50-K gauge
Differential pressure gauge with connecting tubes; it shows how clogged the element is.
Condensate drainage
For WHFIT filters, the manufacturer offers the AOK50SS stainless steel float drain up to 50 bar, recommended from 10 bar, or the TD420M timed drain with a G 1/4" thread, and, for the head, the MDHI 50-K differential pressure gauge. The drain outlet in the bottom has a G 1/2" thread.
Other ranges
Other process filters: PF filters (14 bar, 10 bar from DN100), HPF filters (50 bar), WFIT filters (14 bar), WFIF filters (14 bar, 10 bar from DN100) and WFIW filters (14 bar).
Ventilek’s tip
A drain rated for 50 bar. The WHFIT range needs a drain for the same pressure: the AOK50SS float drain, recommended from 10 bar, or the TD420M timed drain with a G 1/4" thread.
- What pressure are WHFIT filters rated for?
- Up to 50 bar. The housing withstands −20 to +150 °C; the elements have their own temperature limit.
- How does it differ from the HPF range?
- Both ranges work up to 50 bar and take PF range elements. HPF has a polished housing and EPDM seals, WHFIT a welded housing, FKM seals and a cyclone separator C.
- How do I choose the size?
- By the flow at your pressure. The flows apply to 7 bar; at a higher pressure, multiply them by the correction factor — at 50 bar it is 6.38.
- Is a condensate drain included with the filter?
- No, it is ordered separately. The AOK50SS float drain or the TD420M timed drain is suitable.
- How often should the elements be replaced?
- At least once every 12 months. Once a year, also check the housing for visible damage.
