WALTER WK430AP-PLATE Cast-Iron Compressor Unit - Base Frame, 230 V
The WK430AP-PLATE is the only standalone WALTER unit designed for a standard 230 V / 50 Hz mains supply. The 2V cast-iron twin-cylinder with a power input of 2.2 kW (3 HP) has an intake of 420 l/min, delivers 340 l/min to the distribution system at 10 bar, and runs at 1,276 rpm. It is supplied on a base frame, without a pressure vessel, with V-belt drive; noise level approx. 80 dB(A), 3-year warranty after registration at waltercesko.cz.
The letter A in the code is the only difference from the 400 V version – and in practice, it is a fundamental difference. It opens the way to a cast-iron unit for all workshops, construction sites, and garages where a three-phase connection is not available and will not be installed. You handle the vessel, pressure switch, and fusing yourself, and it is especially important not to underestimate the electrical installation with the single-phase version.

On a base frame, an assembly can be built for a trailer, a van, or a portable frame with a small vessel. This is exactly the application where the three-phase version will not help you, because there is simply no three-phase connection on site.

- Is a standard socket really sufficient?
- Voltage-wise yes, but circuit-wise usually not. A 2.2 kW motor on 230 V has a high starting current, so it typically requires its own protected circuit with a slow-trip circuit breaker and a supply sized according to the cable length. Refer to the machine manual for specific values and leave the installation to an electrician – incorrect connection to the mains voids the warranty.
- Can I power it via an extension lead?
- Definitely not via an extension lead on a reel – a coiled cable heats up and the voltage drop during motor start-up is significant. If an extension lead is unavoidable, it must be fully unwound, as short as possible, and have a sufficient conductor cross-section. The best solution is a fixed power supply directly to the machine.
- Does it provide the same amount of air as the three-phase version?
- Yes: the intake of 420 l/min, effective delivery of 340 l/min, and 1,276 rpm are identical for both variants. The difference lies in the electrical section – the single-phase motor has a higher starting current and more demanding power supply requirements.
- Why are there no larger units available for 230 V?
- Because as the power input increases, the starting currents rise to a level that a standard single-phase installation cannot support. Therefore, 2.2 kW is the limit – there are only 5 machines in the entire range for 230 V, and all are based on this unit. For a delivery exceeding 340 l/min, a three-phase power supply is indispensable.
- What else do I need to purchase for it?
- A pressure vessel with a valid inspection (200 l in practice, 100 l only for intermittent use), a pressure switch, safety and non-return valves, and an outlet regulator. For the single-phase version, also allow for a dedicated fused circuit – the starting current is higher than in the three-phase version.
