What star-delta brings
The motor starts in two steps. First, the winding is connected in a star configuration, where a lower voltage acts on it, and only after starting up does it switch to delta for full power. The starting current is thus considerably lower, which is useful where the power supply is weaker or where the machine starts frequently. This has no effect on operation after startup.
