Connectivity of screw compressors

ICONS system for constant overview of compressor operation and efficiency

Compressed air compressor failures are never pleasant in industrial operations. They can take an entire line or workstation out of service, cause frustrating losses, and fray the nerves of managers. Therefore, it pays to closely monitor the condition of compressors and not neglect their maintenance. If a compressor's operation is to be truly economical, it should not run idle too often.

If the condition of your compressor is important to you, install a special device called ICONS (Intelligent CONnectivity System). ICONS will watch over how efficiently the compressor works, whether it needs maintenance or service now or in the near future. You will gain valuable information about the ratio of the compressor's idle time to its time under load.

Benefits of the ICONS system for economical compressor station operation

Benefits of the ICONS system

  • Technology Monitoring
Having all machines under control is becoming an imperative in industry today. It won't be long before all machines are interconnected and monitored from the computers of plant managers and service technicians. Machines will be almost under a microscope. Compressors will not be left behind.
  • Transparency and Cost Control
You will know what condition the compressor is in and how fast it is wearing out. You can easily get a picture of current and future costs. You can easily plan maintenance and also know how much it will cost.
  • Timely Maintenance and Spare Parts Delivery
Based on information from ICONS, compressor suppliers can offer their customers timely maintenance interventions and spare parts.
  • Savings and Clear Planning
Compressor operators save on the costs of determining the machine's condition. Further savings will be brought by clear service and maintenance planning.

Without the ICONS device and service, the maintenance technician often arrives too late

How to monitor compressed air compressors using ICONS?

Get an overview of your compressor's operation in three steps:

  1. Install the ICONS hardware.
  2. Connect to the ICONS service by registering on the web server http://www.connectivityicons.com
  3. Choose one of the ICONS service modes: RIGHTIME (free) or UPTIME (with an annual fee).

1) ICONS Hardware Installation

The ICONS device can be ordered:

  • For new machines as an optional variant,
  • For already installed machines as an installation kit.

As you can see in the second image, the ICONS unit is installed in the control cabinet and is connected to the compressor control unit via an Ethernet line or CAN bus, depending on the type of this control unit. The antenna is mounted on the top of the compressor. It sends compressor data to the web server of the service organization.
