    Why is it essential to filter compressed air?

    Air drawn in and compressed by a compressor (whether piston or screw) is not suitable for industrial and professional use without subsequent treatment. The compressor's intake, while capturing the coarsest particles, is far from being the main problem that threatens your technology.

    What does untreated compressed air contain?

    • Mechanical impurities: dust, fine pollen, rust, and loose scale from older pipe systems.
    • Moisture: condensed water formed by physical compression and subsequent cooling of the air.
    • Oil vapours and aerosols: these are present in all oil-lubricated compressors.

    This harmful "triple combination" is a ticking bomb for any connected equipment. Pneumatic tools gradually lose power, their consumption increases extremely, they corrode internally, fine transfer ports become clogged, and seals are irreparably damaged. For a large automated line full of valves, sensitive cylinders, and robotic elements, the consequences are even more devastating. Unplanned production shutdowns due to a seized pneumatic system can cost a company hundreds of thousands of crowns. Proper filtration is not a luxury, but a necessity!

    Air quality according to ISO 8573-1

    The primary guide for every operator is the international ISO 8573-1 standard. It sets 7 classes of compressed air quality (classes 0 to 6), with each of them precisely defining how many solid particles, water, and oil the air may contain for a given application. A standard blow-off gun has different requirements than a paint shop, and a food processing operation has completely different ones.     Quick navigation – filters by quality class (solid impurities):

    • Quality Class 1 (Extreme purity – microfiltration of particles down to 0.01 µm)
    • Quality Class 2 (Very fine filtration down to 0.1 µm)
    • Quality Class 3 (Fine dust filtration down to 1 µm)
    • Quality Class 4 (Basic filtration down to 15 µm)
    • Quality Class 5 (Coarse filtration down to 40 µm)
    • Class 6 and Class 7 (Coarse separators and cyclones)

    Industrial filters by condensate drain type:

    • 💧 Automatic drain: The best and maintenance-free solution. The filter bowl empties itself as soon as the condensate level reaches a certain limit.
    • 💧 Manual drain: Condensate must be regularly checked and drained by manually pressing or turning the valve at the bottom of the filter.
    • 💧 No condensate drain: Standard solution for specific dust filters or activated carbon bodies where no liquid water occurs.

    • Absorbent and catalytic cartridges for activated carbon filters (removal of odors and gaseous oil).
    • Visual and differential pressure gauges (indicators that signal with red or needle that the cartridge is clogged and restricts airflow).

    The valve advises: Friends, there's really no point in saving money here! Letting compressed air blow into the machine completely without filters is the same as putting diluted gasoline with dirt into a Ferrari. That rusty condensate full of oil will reliably eat away all the expensive seals and clog the nozzles inside. If you are choosing filtration, be guided mainly by the flow rate of your compressor and the size of the connection thread, so that you don't turn the filter into an unwanted brake (so-called "throttle"). And the most important thing at the end – even the most luxurious filter from Hankison will be useless if you don't buy a fresh cartridge at least once a year! Those micro-pores will get clogged and the compressor will start to struggle extremely. If you don't want to keep it in mind, buy a "differential pressure gauge" for the filter as well. As soon as the red color appears on the filter, you know it's time for spring cleaning and a new cartridge!
