Industrial piston compressors designed for continuous operation
Typical piston compressors used in craft applications are designed to operate for a maximum of a few hours per day in intermittent mode, where the compressor must rest for a period of time after a work cycle to reduce its operating temperature. The machine's design is adapted to this, especially the electric motor, which is designed for intermittent operation, marked as S3. If a higher operational load on the compressor is considered, e.g. in industry, it is necessary to modify its design and, in particular, to use an electric motor for continuous operation S1 100%. However, other components of the compressor unit are also adapted. Although industrial piston compressors are significantly more expensive than craft versions, they have a significantly higher efficiency due to the lower temperature, and because they do not need shutdowns to reduce the temperature, they produce air even when craft compressors have to rest. The result is that the industrial compressor produces more air with better efficiency and lower operating costs. |
